Be sooner rather than later, the beginning of the end our populist frolic has begun. Sensible heads will prevail and see the merits of being part of something bigger and stronger. Geopolitics and ourng economics will demand it.

He isnt wrong in his "shot in the foot" stuff. But we will never rejoin if the condition remains joining the Euro.

You're living in fantasy land. Britain is done with the EU.

We will never rejoin

Macron is not very popular, not because of his foreign activities, but due to the way he is pushing through reforms based on neo lib free market capitalist ideology.
The French by and large seem restless at the moment.

What’s the betting for the next President….

So Macron has now thrown his toys out of the pram with America, the U.K. and Australia. He has shown himself up pretending to be tough while everyone else just gets on with ignoring him. His standard modus operandi seems to be take personal offence over anything, blow it up out of all proportion, then say the ball is in the other countries court and they must offer him something. I’m afraid he’s now been found out and had his pants pulled down by Australia. I expect that the rest of the EU are getting a little bit fed up of his mini Napoleon act…..
Must admit, I don't know much about Macron (I honestly couldn't tell you if he is left or right) but there is no news outlet in Australia siggesting Australia had Macrons pants down. The general consensus is that our PM has played this very badly and Macron has shown him up.

How is it being reported in the UK?

Next président ?
Don't know but the danger is from the evolving populist right rather than the old school Le Pen stuff.

That particular bloke stands out as absolute knob, even by the high standard of being absolute knobs set by the modern populist right.

Imagine trying to kick off the Dreyfus affair again to own the libz.

Depends on the outlet. Many reported the Aus Pm showing a text proving that Macron knew before he said he did, while others are reporting that France is upset because of a ‘new low’ by Australia in releasing the text message, note not saying it was incorrect, just bad form. Either way it appears to have silenced Macron…..

Biden or Trump, Boris or Corbyn/Starmer, Macron or Le Pen/Nutter, Germany between several other wasters. The west is screwed…….

That particular bloke being Xavier Bertrand? Président du région Hauts de France.

No, Zemmour
As @spectateur mentioned above, EM's reforms which were forced through at every turn, have not been warmly received by wider French society. Those who made the effort to turn out to vote in the second round last time did so to keep MLP out and was not an acceptance of the neoliberal quinquennat which has subsequently been imposed.

Zemmour's rise has resulted in Le Pen's support bleeding out heavily all over the show, rather than absorbing any votes from Hidalgo or Mélenchon. Although all polls that I've seen currently show a Macron win in the second round (~ 55-45), I'm curious to see whether the general ambivalence towards him would be enough for one of the right-wing candidates to cause a real upset. Local and mayoral election turnout over the past 18 months set new records for voter abstention, and so this contest will be considerably closer than the previous one imo.
