Frost chucking the DUP et al under the bus at the Select Committee this morning. I'm going to assume this is a direct quote but I've lifted it from a report rather than hearing it myself:

"The difficulty that we have had since the start of the year, or at least the end of January, is there has been a very visible weakening of consent in one community in Northern Ireland for the arrangements in the protocol and that’s obviously produced instability and uncertainty."

What an unexpected development that NI Unionists would turn against a deal that divided them from the mainlaind UK! Poor Lord Frosty the Slow Man, who seems to be continually blindsided by things that Remain commenters have been warning against for years.

What is the perverse joy obtained by remainers in doing down their own country. Obviously they are unhappy at a democratic vote, but when do they stop sniping and get behind the efforts to build new relationships. It’s quite sad really......

It shouldn't matter, should it? We were told about the 'sunlit uplands' etc., so it shouldn't matter what Will Hutton on Twitter says about it all, global Britain will obviously be so much better off outside the EU!

... right?

....... right???

If I may speak on behalf of all remainers, I suggest we think it's perhaps the act of leaving the EU that has caused immense harm to our country, and the vacuous attempts to paper over those cracks by the government are only pulling the wool over your eyes because you're desperate to see your choice in successful terms.

I see that Liz Truss has announced that EU beef imports to the U.K. will be cut from the 230,000 tonnes expected this year to 35,000 tonnes as the Australian deal gets going. If true, then that will be a bit harsh on the ROI......
From the Economist article I shared earlier Pete

"Almost six months after Britain left the single market, the impact on the economy is hard to unpick from that of covid-19. Yet the effects of new barriers to trade are clear enough. The Trade Policy Observatory at Sussex University reckons that in the first quarter of 2021 British goods exports to the EU fell by 15%, while EU exports to Britain fell by 32%. The Office for National Statistics finds similarly that total EU-UK trade has shrunk by 20%. And a model constructed by John Springford of the Centre for European Reform, a think-tank with offices in both London and Brussels, concludes that goods trade is 11% lower than it would otherwise have been, on top of an earlier 10% fall since the referendum."

Why anyone would wish to paint that as a positive thing is beyond me.

I refer the honourable gentleman to the post a few inches above his?

And I'm deliberately limiting this to trade as we're talking about trade.

Surely, all government decisions should be critically evaluated, is that not a democracy? If anybody shows data to imply that a government decision is bad then the 'democratic vote' line comes out. How dare the 48% of people who disagreed at the time disagree now with the process (and probably a few of the 52% as well, along with the people who were not eligible to express their opinion at the time), especially in the light of all the positive decision making, 5 years down the line, regarding NI, Fishing, Farming, trade, etc.

So, why do all pro Brexit people see critique and try to shut it down saying things like 'get over it', etc. That is not very democratic is it?

It is not the remainers that are sad people, they are just showing concern, how is that a bad thing when they produce stats to show their concern?

There is a difference between highlighting concern and showing joy at any difficulty.....

There is certainly no joy mate. Trust me on that. Why would there be?

Indeed. So the U.K. is still trading with the EU, with difficulties granted, Truss has rolled over all of the EU deals with 60+ countries, enhanced the Japan deal and negotiated a deal from scratch with Australia, set the scene for the U.K. to join the CPTPP (an economic grouping as large as the EU) and is negotiating with the USA. We only left the EU six months ago. All this behind a doom and gloom prediction of instant economic turmoil and cliff edges. I happen to think that the U.K. isn’t doing too badly and will improve immeasurably in the months and years to come. Mistakes will be made and difficulties will be encountered, but we knew that when we voted....

Yes, there is. Point out to me where the joy was in the tweet that you responded to? You made the assumption that the writer was taking joy (or all remainers, using that tweet as an example), I did not see any emotion whatsoever in the words other than he disagreed with the deal.
