Not really a funny subject though; I mean nearly 100000 French soldiers did die defending their country. I didn't realise how heroic a lot of the fighting was until I visited Saumur before all this virus kicked off and heard about the battle there, which happened two weeks after Dunkirk and after Petain had told them to surrender.

To paraphrase something that was cited on the Trump thread (in an article I think @LinekersLegs linked to), the problem is that those people are fluent in whining, dickish grievance-mongering, which has replaced modern conservatism.

Yes they did and the Germans built the Siegfried Line didn't they.
Didn't do them much good in 1945 either.
