The sham dance being played out here.

We know there'll be a deal - the EU have these tools over a barrel, and Johnson cant have his legacy be 'the man who cratered the economy for a decade'.
I thought the same when the Northern Ireland arrangement got trotted out on its own, get that one out of the way whilst everyone is busy happy clapping the vaccination miracle. Agreeing to that and compromising on the rest of the deal would possibly be too much for the Gammon nut jobs to cope with in one sitting. Surely nobody could be that stupid, that they actually believed in a no deal outcome being anything other than disastrous, now I'm not so sure. Watching John Baron (Tory MP) on last night's Newsnight was scary stuff. Their ideological inability to see what's actually happening is staggering, if he is representative of their group think. Tariffs of 5-7% may mean people can't afford to buy food ? Yeah but, sovereignty and haddock though. See 10:14 & 14:30. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000q60x/newsnight-09122020

I seen that last night. But at the end of the day Johnson doesn't need them to get a deal though parliament.

I expect a form of words on a deal to allow him to be seen to have got *concessions* from Europe and "the EU blinked first, yada yada yada".

Enough of the swivel eyed lunatics will get in line and a rump of euro-phobes will trundle on in the Tory Party. Plus ca change on that.

I can't honestly see how it can be anything but no deal. What a mess.

You can't help but feel, when reading this and looking at the way the UK has handled the entire process that we are completely winging it. It's as though, despite the obvious complexity and difficulty of the task, portions of the UK and more importantly, MPs and members of the Cabinet have been convinced by their own hubris that it will be simple and speedy.

It has a feel of both sides creating windmill for Johnson to tilt at and proclaim he's slain the giant.

Particularly the ratchet clause stuff about unilateral punishment - seems designed purely to create a demon to slay.

It's a state. Any attempts to provide a degree of sympathy to the Tories tends to evaporate when you have toads like Gove suggesting that we'll continue to have access to free healthcare and programs like Erasmus going forward, when he knows full well they will end on January 1st.
