Welcome back Wayne
Prepare for what, Pete? The Government are telling British businesses they need to prepare for a deal we know nothing about OR no deal at all – in the middle of a pandemic.
There is only one thing that is certain when the transition period ends: chaos. And how can anyone fully prepare for chaos when we don’t know which version of chaos to prepare for?
The Government guidance is deliberately disingenuous. The changes we've made inline with the guidance will also likely cripple us. It is just another way for this abhorrent Tory government to shift blame for their own incompetence and complete lack of preparation or planning on to British businesses.
As for saying we’ve had four and half years to prepare, sorry but what a load a sh*te mate. Four and a half years ago we were told we weren’t leaving the single market. Four and a half years ago Brexit was the easiest deal in human history and there was no downside only a considerable upside. Four and a half years ago we were told a trade deal would be ready to sign on day one, in an afternoon over a cup of tea, and yet here we 44 days away with no deal in place and businesses do not have the necessary information or clarity required to fully prepare.
If you want to continue on that point, then the Government has also had four and half years to prepare themselves. Yet they still haven’t got the lorry parks, customs officers, IT systems etc. anywhere near ready. They’re issuing passes to enter Kent, the Army are in reserve and they’ve employed scores of expensive crisis busters to keep food and medicine flowing.
The Government has also told schools to prepare for a lack of fresh food and to stockpile long-life food. When are they going to tell the rest of us to prepare for fresh food shortages? And how, exactly do we that?
Come on Pete, seriously! Would any of this be needed if Brexit were a good idea? Brexit and the whole process over the last four and a half years ago has been a complete and utter shambles and the longest self imposed economic suicide in history.
The rest of your reply contains a number of inaccuracies and a total lack of knowledge of how trade works and the real impact of Brexit on British businesses that I really don’t have the energy to reply to.
I still have no idea of the type of your business, and the effects of Brexit are different for every single sector. Obviously I will not know as much as you about your particular business and the effects upon it. But I still reckon that four and a half years is more than enough to sort it out. Really, what have you been doing during this time. We are not talking about thousands of employees nor a myriad of products and locations. I’m not having a go, but seriously with 20 employees, how much time do you need. You can have a go at me, as you have, at what I may not understand, because it’s your business, but even though I am not a betting man I’m pretty sure that with the luxury of over four years I would have this sorted. P.S. being retired now, I am more than happy to discuss this with you or at least challenge your thinking, free of charge, via a pm......
