from the same article....

”The arrangement, known as “passporting”, expires at the end of the year and, while the UK has legislated so that EU banks can continue to provide services for customers in Britain, the EU has not done the same.”...Cheers EU.....

The thing is Pete, we were warned about not being able to have our cake and eat it at the start of this. These things aren't part of the Australian or Canadian style arrangements that were held up as exemplars, so why are we now surprised that we're not able to cherry pick the aspects of EU membership we like? You were told this would happen, yet you chose to believe charlatans who were convinced that it wouldn't (because they need us more than we need them etc.)

One side trying to be sensible and look after people within its boundaries and one side doing everything it can to ‘punish’ people within its boundaries. One of the ‘benefits’ of our exit and current negotiations is for U.K. people to finally see exactly what a nasty and spiteful group the EU really is....

Aye Pete, that's how everyone is seeing this.

Starting to wonder if this isn't just a face-saving exercise on your part and that you really are this deranged.

Not at all Bruce, and I am not complaining. As you say, we are are out and cannot cherry pick anything. I’m just glad to see the U.K. behaving responsibly to EU citizens living in the U.K. while the EU shows itself up for what it is....

Face saving about what. I am quite happy with the arrangements, I just feel a bit sorry for those that decided to live outside of the U.K. The U.K. has done the decent thing and the EU has not. Certainly nothing for anyone to be happy or gloating about, it is what it is.....

What's that? Agree to a deal and renege on it less than a year later? You'll have to excuse me Pete, but I don't think I'm going to take lessons on decency from the man who once genuinely proposed wiping a city of 9 million people "off the map".

The U.K. as yet has not reneged on anything...

Well if you want to be fussy about the language, they are in the process of reneging on it and going so far as to pass a bill and break international law to do it. I like you Pete, which is why I feel the need to tell you that you have been making an utter show of yourself in recent weeks. I can see why you admire Bojo so much, he must be quite the hero for aspiring clowns.

It‘s a sensible precaution, but more importantly it’s a very good negotiating ploy and political statement. The fact that US Democrats and EU politicians are all aghast that Boris would do this is a powerful message. Barnier threw the threat in and Boris has knocked it straight out of the ground. Barnier will have had his ear bent and will not try anything like that again....

I thought I would come here to get away from the doom and gloom of the coronavirus but then I read this:

I'm going to look on the bright side and say this can't possibly increase costs with trucks and drivers sat waiting to move goods, therefore less and less will be sold to Europe because of competition from other countries...but that would make me an idiot.

Get your best selling copy of 'How to shrink an economy by the UK' (Subtitled: Well just England and Wales because they were the ones that voted for it - Sturgeon made us put in this line)

2020 was the worst year on record but 2021 could well match/beat it with what is coming.

If only this government could somehow curtail our freedoms so to mitigate against any civil unrest this would undoubtedly cause as the shelves emptied. If only they could think of a way to get the army on the streets. Mmmmm, if only...
