There are many Remainers and Labour MP’s or ex MP’s who perhaps now wish they had voted for May’s deal. But they didn’t and we all make choices in life. There is no such thing as No Deal. We will have a deal one way or the other, but one way may not be an FTA.....
Many indicated they would've voted for Johnson's deal, but wanted time to debate it and scrutinise it, but weren't allowed that.

Perhaps we wouldn't be in this situation if we had a Government that believed in the Sovereignty of Parliament, the rule of law and democratic principles.

Why do you think they have anything to do with it. I don’t dislike Germany, the U.K. and Germany would make very good partners, but you have to understand your partners and how they operate to be successful. The only problem I have with them at the moment is that they want a United States of Europe and I don’t .....

That rabbit hole again?

As Andrew Rawnsley said in the Observer today, how mad is it to see a Tory government happy to jeopardise the Union, to glory in the breakdown of the rule of law and to try to rule by decree?
It’s obvious that they only managed to cajole the swivel eyed loons of the ERG into backing Johnson’s ‘oven ready’ deal, was to sell it them on the basis that they’d simply ignore the parts they didn’t like in the future and break International Law in doing so.

It’s completely contemptible and has that maverick buffoon Cummings fingerprints all over it. Oh the irony, an unelected bureaucrat literally running the entire shitshow by proxy. But down with those unelected bureaucrats or something.

Yep. That Labour didnt vote for May's deal is one of the worst legacies of Corbyn.

Bet all those country's the UK are attempting to negotiate trade treaties with are thrilled to see that the government is happy to pick and choose its obligations based on expedience
It works both ways as well. Imagine the fume from Pete if, as I suspect we will, in the event of a deal, the EU decide to disregard their obligations purely because they decide they want to.

Or the US for that matter.

Amazing isn’t it. Supposedly Global Britain telling the World that we’ll sign treaties in bad faith, simply ignore the bits we don’t like at some future date and decide unilaterally whether we think that breaking International law in doing so, is sound or not.

Form an orderly queue for a trade deal lads.

Now I think about... maybe Pete is right. Just imagine how much trouble could have been avoided in 1914 if the government had told Belgium "sod the treaty, you're on your own."
There is clearly a thought that says 'in the absence of proper sanctions' other than a stern look and tough rhetoric, a country like the UK can do what it wants on the international stage, much like China, Russia or the US do. That completely falls apart when you realise that the UK isn't an equivalent stature to those countries any longer.

Of course, theres no statutory sanction for breaking your treaty obligations. The extreme case is war, the normal is a reputational dent and the loss of soft power.

Look at it this way, should Argentina decide next week that they do, in fact, own the Falklands and to hell with the treaty, Boris Johnson would rather struggle to make the case for intervention to the UN with a straight face.

Precisely. And Raab talking tough on China or damning Russia looks ridiculous.

Interesting you mention war...do you think we should be worried about the threat the EU army pose?
