"The consortium, led by Professor Richard Davies, Professor of geo-energy at Newcastle University, in conjunction with colleagues at Durham, Cambridge, Stanford, Strathclyde, Keele and Hull universities"

Would that be the same Professor Richard Davies who used to work for Exxon mobil?

And the Professor Richard Davies who is a Director of the Durham Energy Institute, which has a number of private partners from the energy sector including the part Chinese-state owned IGas which has raised £23.1m to fund exploration for shale gas in North West England in 2013. The company also owns licences to drill in Cheshire.

He's an oil shill.

Surely coincidental?
Anyway, I can't see anything getting in the way of his objective scientific endeavours.

Presumably so to are the Royal Society, the CCC, the EPA, IMechE and so on?

I still burn coal and logs got two ton of smoky coal coming tomorrow runs 8 Raidiators, all my hot water and heats my living room on a roaring open fire with a Dunsley wrap around boiler, always been a rebellol
I burn wood and coal mate, as well as having oil fired CH, and I drive a car that guzzles fuel.

I just accept that global warming is linked to Co2, I didn't say I was part of the solution lol

I don,t believe in climate change either Bruce - I have a solid ful coal log central heating system ;)
When I was. School in the late 1960,s they were predicting an ice age!
Seen a documentary on channel 4, and an Icelandic scientist living not far from the North Pole, he stated now we have the technology to travel there, the pictures you see of the melting is their warm period like as natural as our seasons!
In other words go back 3 months later the ice refeezes it also went into the late 1890,s when the river Thames froze over so bad they held a weekly market on it!
It's gradual seasons changing IE Nature!
And I don't believe in world hunger, cuz I just had a nice supper.

????

I know he was, but he wasn't the author of the reports that I shared earlier in the thread that all came to a similar conclusion. I even have a direct quote from the head of energy and environment at IMechE from a conversation her and I had.
Bruce mate, I must admit to having a personal interest in this issue and am therefore passionate about it.

I've been to a number of lectures about the effects of fracking and the aftermath in parts of the World where it's been long established.

I've spoken to ex-oil company executives about the practice and read reems of information about the conflicting 'science' - from both sides.

My conclusion is that it's completely inappropriate on an island as small as ours, for umpteen different reasons - not least that we should be applying more focus, resource and research on non fossil fuel alternatives. As opposed to ruining our countryside trying to squeeze the last drops out of the sponge. Go and read about some of the sites in the States and Aus - and some of the experiences of people who've had to live in their shadow.
