english and/or german - how is that relevant? Does the language they speak in alter their opinion?

and further to my response above, there's also considering the AfD. For the Bundestagswahl 2017 5.3m voted for them as first-choice, and 5.8m as 2nd-choice. That's effectively over 11 million individual voters who put AfD down as favoured choice. I know some of them personally. I take it you do not. AfD of course aren't warm to the current EU-ideal.

Fair enough, as far as I know I don't know any AfDers. I met plenty who complain about (mainly Muslim) immigration but whether they're AfD sympathisers I don't know. And I live in Frankfurt which is quite an international city, probably quite different from other places.

Echo chambers unfortunately. Believe me, after last night, I know all about them. The majority of people who voted for Brexit don´t hang out on Twitter, they also probably haven´t engaged with the issue anymore than they did before the referendum either. They wanted out then and they still want out now. The arguments to counter it don´t register.

No, you're probably right.

The Islam-in-Germany topic is a very complex one, unfortunately it can get ugly very quickly as one side screams racist nazi! while some on the other side do actually get racist about it, which rightly renders whatever argument they have null and void.

But in the fair middle there's plenty of valid things to be concerned about. Key to a healthy debate is to focus on the religion's influence, and not the racial demographics of the adherents.

With the EU-question, if you're genuinely interested to maybe widen your horizon, look at EU-related articles on the likes of welt/zeit/spiegel. Sort the comments via highly-rated ("beliebteste") and have a gander at what a lot of normal (not racist) Germans are thinking. Look at the reader comments, not the article.

Here for example are the highest-rated comments on two different EU related articles from two of the most-respected online news/comment sites: Welt and Zeit:

There's tens-of-thousands more like this, with millions of likes (or equivalent) dotted around the thousands of EU-related articles since Brexit.

A common and dominant theme, one that maybe you weren't aware of.

We are now leaving. Our Government now has a massive majority that will help in any negotiations. The fact that the USA wants to do a free trade deal will put pressure on the EU to get in first, an EU who sells much more to us than we do to them. We are in a good negotiating position...finally.....

Hes just attention-grabbing Bruce, its all he knows how to do.

But its not him, its the clique who 7 years ago said he was a tit, hes really a good person.
Only got one poster on ignore and I’m guessing it’s the one you’re referring too. I’d end up getting banned if I could read his posts. Maybe he’s a nice guy in ‘real life’ but he a condescending douche on here.

not just an annoying internet tit, a genuinely nasty piece of work and real low life

ffs can't you lot just make a group chat about me and get it out your system? no one wants to read your pointless off-topic bitching.

"genuinely nasty" "real low life" ??

get some perspective, for the love of GOT

I do pick up a fair bit of casual racism here TBH. Not Nazi type racism but just generally negatively stereotyping certain groups, e.g. Muslims, East Europeans, South Europeans etc.

I'll do some reading, those comments you posted don't look that bad IMO, especially the first one. Recognising problems with the EU and wanting to leave it are 2 different things

Pack it in fellas. We can disagree without this.
