i can tell you many Germans are getting very uneasy by the EU's power-grab over nations. Von der Leyen was a failed national politician yet she's now effectively in charge of not just German policy, but EU-policy. The people would never have voted her in to such a position, yet there she is.

This new green deal she's charged ahead with will have many uncomfortable side-effects for the average citizen, in form from higher taxes, more complicated bureaucracy and myriad inconveniences. All in the name of climate-hysteria (in reality, it's all in the name of control and money).

This is also the same Von der Leyen who is pushing for an EU army to replace national armees.

If Germany had a Dexit referendum, they would vote OUT a lot more than 52/48. The EU is becoming a modern USSR. Many praise the Brits for having the freedom to choose.

Maybe some consolation for Remainers...

Ah yes a modern USSR where you are free to take work and move between any of the consitutent states. Where rights are protected by law and you are free to post whatever nonsense you want about it on the internet.

You may wish to read up a little on the USSR.

What utter rot.

in what way? USSR also took control from the states and incorporated it into the soviet system: new laws were created and had to be adhered to, one army covered all the nation states, the chiefs of USSR weren't directly elected by the nation folks, and if one nation state wanted to leave a big fuss was made of it.

Striking parallels, to be fair.

One ray of hope is that now he's not beholden to the ERG for votes, he can pursue a more measured withdrawal and not set ridiculous and unobtainable deadlines to appear tough. Of course, it's equally possible that he'll double down on his Trump tribute act.

personally, and others may disagree, I think he’ll pull away from the ERG and try to get a working relationship with Brussels. He’s got to play the long game.

There’ll definitely be a US Trade Deal within 2 years

Can you name me a law that was created anywhere in human history that didn't have to be adhered to? That's why it's the law.

We already have NATO which covers every EU member and mandates ordnance and ammunition standards as well as a shared commitment to defense spending.

You are aware that you have two opportunities to influence who represents you in the European parliament and commission, I take it?

You clearly never lived under the USSR if you think there are any parallels whatsoever.

oh you saw it now.

laws that are created by the EU which nation state folk have to adhere to. i.e. not laws created by their elected governments.

To be honest, I always thought he was the epitome of the metropolitan elite sort, and so would be much happier hanging out with his fellow Bullingdon Club boys than around the Billinge Lump, but if the last few years have shown anything it's that the blokes naked ambition seem to trump any ideology he may have.
