It’s an EU tax.....
You might want to add some context around VAT, what it is, why it exists and what it replaced. Because it seems that in an attempt to find one piece of legislation you don't like, so as to not look like you don't know what you're talking about, you've said something which is vaguely accurate, but is actually much more nuanced than your four word response.

Perhaps, but one way or another it’s working......

Its making people angry, but the problem with that pete is that people often decide to be angry at someone else instead - especially a bunch of hypocrites who saw absolutely nothing wrong with blocking a Brexit deal less than twelve months ago and who now present that same deal and demand people don't block it.

People might even notice that the Tory Party are the only ones who have been in government between 2016 and now, and so presumably might bear some responsibility for what the government has done during that time.

It’s an EU tax. Part of the VAT collected even goes into the EU coffers......

We had VAT before we were in the EEC. But as it was pointed out above, its far more complicated to say its an EU tax.

And my understanding is that the amount collected by a member state goes towards their annual contribution. Or sommet like that, but its been a while since I was closer to that line of work.

And normally the government would get the blame. Certainly May was getting the blame and from people such as myself too. The deal has changed slightly though, which is why the DUP and ERG are now on different sides and the DUP May work with Labour and not the Tories. Boris has changed the dynamics, he got the EU to open negotiations when everyone else said it was impossible and with parliament doing everything they could to cut him off at the knees, and he is now seen as the Champion of an EU deal. The blame has shifted to those that are stopping a deal and actually making no deal more likely. He will come out of this smelling of roses and Corbyn will be up to his neck in the smelly stuff.....just an opinion....
