But "the Island has a special and limited relationship with the EU, under an agreement (‘Protocol 3’) negotiated when the UK joined Europe in 1973, allowing free trade in agricultural and manufactured products between the Isle of Man and EU members. Apart from matters relating to this agreement, including Customs, the Island is not bound by EU laws and it pays nothing to, and receives nothing from, EU funds." https://www.gov.im/about-the-government/departments/cabinet-office/external-relations/constitution/
Perfect place for Checkpoint Charlie?
Are they in the EU without googling?

The thing about the negotiations this time is they are not being published in full nor tieing the arm up our negotiating teams back -, and no one is 100% certain that what is the deal as yet so progress can hopefully be made on all sides .....

Is it not?

How does that come about?
The Isle of Man is not, and never has been, part of the United Kingdom, nor is it part of the European Union. It is not represented at Westminster or in Brussels. The Island is a self-governing British Crown Dependency - as are Jersey and Guernsey in the Channel Islands - with its own parliament, government and laws.
The island is not part of the United Kingdom or European Union, but has the status of 'crown dependency', similar to Jersey and Guernsey, with an independent administration. Its inhabitants are British citizens. The Isle of Man was permanently settled by Celts and fell under Viking control in 1079
