Rather a sweeping statement. Surely the emphasis on all parties concerned should be to educate and inform.They are trying to reverse the most stupid decision ever. Asking the uneducated people to decide on something they know nothing about.
As for a referendum being the "most democratic action a government can impose on its people", it's not though is it?
There was a lack of clear and accurate information on all parties in the lead up to the referendum and since.
If you believe that people should be empowered to make decisions then you should at least trust them to make informed decisions.
There's a great irony, if you think from your position as an MP, that people aren't smart enough to make decisions in a vote.
