Then it was a bad illustration as it tried to decry horticulture, which one day will save the planets people via new drugs, or just keeping them fed. All professions have to go through obtaining degrees and professional qualifications. Then comes experience and ongoing training and additional qualifications, it never stops. It’s all about changes within the profession and the latest laws, technology, research, or whatever, it keeps moving on, it never stops. I would put no profession above another because they all have differing challenges. Christiaan Barnard transplanted a heart, is he at least at the level of a SC Judge or maybe higher. Every profession has people at the top, for a period of time before they retire. They all do for their profession what everyone else does for their own. An SC Judge is just that, someone who understands and applies or interprets the law as produced by the politicians. People who oversee technology or medicine are no lesser people...
Yes but clearly there are some professions that require a much greater academic discipline than others.

You might be a professional footballer but you aren't likely to be as academically qualified as a judge.

Indeed. So can you tell me what academic qualifications and how long they studied to become a SC judge. Then tell me how long the same process was for a consultant brain or heart surgeon.....

A surgeon roughly takes about 14 years to train. A supreme Court Judge needs a minimum of 15 years practice (over and above their qualifications).

I didn't realise you were a brain/heart surgeon.....

I’m not. It was just another profession. An SC Judge has the same qualifications as a QC or even a Solicitor I believe and then after that it’s ongoing training, just like every other profession. 15 years is neither here nor there tbh as most people at the top of their profession have 30 to 40 years experience. I came from a pretty poor background, went to grammar school and was intimidated by those from richer backgrounds. I didn’t do that well. It was not until I left that I realised that I was as good if not better than others that I kicked on, pushed my education further and drove myself to be the best I could be in what I did. So I now no longer look up to those who initially were my ‘betters’ and see them for what they are, just other people who did well in what they do.....

Congratulations Pete.

I dont think comparison between professionals is correct. I think that some professions require greater levels of qualifications than others and greater mastery and comprehension of complex concepts than others To be honest this is way off topic for the thread and reading through your humble brags is a bit tiresome.

Fair enough.....

BBC...

“Antti Rinne said he and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed the UK needed to produce the proposals ( for the border) in writing by the end of September, adding if not, "then it's over".

Excellent news, providing the other 25 agree with them we can be out by simply doing sod all......I’ve always loved the Finns and the French.....
