Facing cold, hard reality now.

The moment Johnson declared he “would die in a ditch” etc. the DUP was going under tye bus because the NI only Backstop is the only thing keeping him out of that ditch.
Well, it looks like the No Surrender lot are trying desperately to dress up a command they've had to surrender.

I doubt their insistence on a Stormont veto will be accepted by Dublin or the EU, so if / when they also surrender on that issue we could see a deal struck.

No chance in Hell the “Stormont lock”. a.k.a. Unionist veto is going to wash with the EU.

Especially given the propensity of that particular body to suspend itself every now and then.

That bell end in Yorkshire today in Rotherham and Doncaster.

Isn't he flogging a dead horse there and in most of the rest of these Labour Leave seats?

The was a massive polling study in the spring that said Labour voters in these places were 'less than 10% likely to vote Conservative'.

Obvioulsy the Labour majority in these places will drop given the clamour to grab anything that gets Britain out of the EU quicker, but the vas=t majority in those places couldn't even hold their noses and vote Tory just once.

I think it underlines how desperate the Tories are to make up for the losses they'll suffer to the LDs and SNP.

We're heading for a hung parliament.

How do you see the climbdown by the unionists happening mate?

Well, in the old days of Ian Paisley they would bring 50,000 people on to the streets of Belfast yelling “Ulster Says No” in 1986 or going on strike to bring the Assembly down in 1974.

But as the DUP have found out in the intervening almost half century, Belfast and indeed 6 of 9 in general is no longer a Unionist fiefdom nor is the rising tide of non unionist sentiment among the populace prepared to be a vassal state to England.

This current lot are going to claim that Mr. Varadkar conceded to their demands on the Backstop and that Mr. Johnson assured them there will be no Ni only Backstop and they will do a little “victory lap” before saying that “of course it is sensible to have some form of regulatory union with the Republic and that is what we have agreed to”.

No one will be fooled of course but hey, if they can save a bit of face then be it so.

Also, I believe privately they will heave a sigh of relief.

Their stance on Brexit has put them at odds with their staunchest supporters...the Ulster Farmers Union, many of whom are facing bankruptcy if the Kamikaze version of Brexit goes ahead.

In short.....Boris Johnson is about to save the DUP from itself.

Ha Ha.

I reckon that will be about spot on.

That deal could have been had 21 months ago.

I suppose pocketing £2B and helping a bunch of right wing loonies to power is a result for them...of sorts.

The DUP: they're caving in aren't they?

"...where it was appropriate and EU legislation was necessary to keep the free flow of trade across the Irish border, especially in the agrifood industry, and where it didn’t damage our relationships with our biggest market in GB, then, of course, that’s the kind of thing that the North Ireland assembly should be open to consider, and that would not be opposed to that kind of arrangement." - Sammy Wilson.
They are expendable now and must surely realise that no one gives a hoot about NI over there. They need to rescue something and according to our local press now want a deal as they have completely misread their own voting base. Yes, Union Jacks are class and all that but when your farming base loses money then the cows will truly come home.

Ha Ha.

I'd love to see those medieval bigots humiliated.

There will a form of words to help them celebrate that they have defied the EU when in reality the DUP have laid the foundations for Irish unification through energising the constitutional question.

There should at least be a plaque in Crossmaglen square commemorating the DUP contribution.
