This is what the 'common man' Brexiteers don't understand - the manipulation of the race to the bottom by the mega rich to profiteer off their misery.

'Turkeys voting for Christmas' is the best way of putting it.

We shall see. Five years from now and we should revisit this thread.....

How have they figured out those cost comparisons? I don't really get it. Unless any future trade deal actively prohibited the NHS from procuring existing medicines from wherever they get them right now, why would any hospital pay more? Or are Labour saying that a trade deal would somehow nobble Nice?

They probably mean we'd have to sign up to their patent standards for drugs.

Are WIPO rules not fairly standard around the world?

They are, but if shared medical drug standards were part of the trade deal it would almost certainly mean we would have to have FDA approval for all drugs - which would prevent the importation of generic / other drugs from outside and restrict us to their market

I see. Still seems a bit of a leap to assume these things will happen.

Not really, at least according to their aims in the trade talks:

Seek provisions governing intellectual property rights that reflect a standard of protection similar to that found in U.S. law, including, but not limited to, protections related to trademarks, patents, copyright and related rights (including, as appropriate, exceptions and limitations), undisclosed test or other data, and trade secrets

The U.K. government, has consistently and now through two Prime Ministers given guarantees that there will be no hard border. This taking back control soundbite covers a multitude of issues, law, international affairs, trade, immigration etc etc.....

Theres dozens of companies along the Irish border rubbing their hands at this utter hypocrisy.
