Because he will deliver Brexit, just as we voted for......
So you'll ignore his record of lying to party leaders, newspaper readerships, the British people etc, just for Brexit? You'll ignore his pathetic record whilst Foreign Secretary, just for Brexit? You'll ignore the fact that the only policies he has promised us have been costed as undoable (see his lie on the side of a dirty big bus three years ago), just for Brexit? Brexiteers are weird, and Johnson supporters from this city are plain insane.

Ireland and a couple of Eu countries including Germany are already approaching Boris’ people to try and find a solution. Ireland fully understands that no deal will kill them, until Boris they never thought it could happen. Deals will now be done...
Utter Tripe.

No deal will destroy our peace process and 25 years of work. Your use of the words ‘kill them’ may be prophetic Pete but hey ho, if it delivers Brexit then begone with it all.

He is a racist misogynist who you are trumpeting as calling the bluff of the EU.

Indeed.

Because the moment “Boris” becomes the man charged with overseeing the havoc “no deal” will wreak on our own economy, never mind Ireland and Germany, he will be extremely anxious to cut a deal.

BTW.....dollars to doughnuts that deal will be the eminently sensible NI only Backstop, Peter ;)

Then we can all move on with the rest of our lives.

No he won't, unless he agrees to an NI only backstop.

And if he doesn't, Parliament will stop No Deal when he tries to prorogue it.

There's a constitutional crisis coming up, all of your own making.

“EU countries are secretly wooing Boris Johnson in a bid to thrash out a new Brexit plan that would avoid a no-deal disaster as he prepares to take over as prime minister this week.

Senior Irish politicians and diplomats have held peace talks with two of Johnson’s cabinet allies in recent days.

German and French figures, as well as the Dutch and Belgian governments, have also established contacts with Johnson’s team and signalled an intention to do a deal.

In an article today for The Sunday Times, Simon Coveney, Ireland’s deputy prime minister and minister for foreign affairs, indicates that Dublin is prepared to compromise.”

Pete, if I was a passenger in a car driven at 100mph towards a wall, I would talk to the driver as well.

You interpret a suicide mission as a position of control.

Really ??

"Writing in the London Edition of the Sunday Times, Mr Coveney said a no-deal Brexit would devastate Northern Ireland's economy.

He said the backstop exists to protect the Good Friday Agreement and warned that nothing should be done to put the peace on this island at risk.

In a stark assessment of what a no-deal would mean, Mr Coveney said Northern Ireland has more to lose from such a scenario than anywhere else.

He said it would devastate the North's economy with tariffs and rules that would fundamentally disrupt the all-island economy on which so much progress has been built.

My Coveney referenced comments by the recently appointed chief constable of the PSNI who warned a hard Brexit would have an absolutely detrimental impact on the peace process.

He said the Irish Government is looking forward to meeting and engaging with the new prime minister.

But with just 100 days between that appointment and the day Britain is due to leave the EU, he urged the new PM to be realistic and honest about the impact of their decisions."

Let’s leave aside the veracity or otherwise of that article you read, Peter.

And focus on the word “compromise”.

You don’t need me to tell you that “compromise” is a two way street....it takes two parties to do that.

So what would Mr. Coveney be talking about when he says “compromise”?

(if in fact he did say the things you read in that article.....you don’t think “fake news” is only applicable to things you disdain, do you :p)

But I shall tell you the “compromise” which will get your man and this country off the hook.

NI only Backstop.

Which was what May and Barnier came up with in t’ first place and is still the only game in town,

And that is the “compromise” that Mr. Johnson will eventually arrive at if he is serious about “delivering Brexit”..

Because nowt else is going to fly with the Irish, north or south, and the EU.

And it will fly with the vast majority of English Brexiters as well.

If you lay back, as May did, you get screwed. Ireland knows it will either have to go along with Germany and France if Boris is serious about no deal......

He should look at the scenes in Portrush today where the victory of Shane Lowry was celebrated by everyone in that unionist bastion of County Antrim as much as it was in his hometown in County Offaly.

He needs to stop listening to the minority DUP and listen to the real people of NI, both Catholic and Protestant, whom are acutely aware of the perils Brexitannia is posing to both their physical and economic wellbeing and whom voted comfortably in favour of the Backstop in the EU election.

My word, @peteblue

You are putting a whole different spin on The Tanaiste’s words just because you think it helps you make a point.

But as ever....the fact checkers on here show you up lol

Well done, Mark ;)

Hoping that the unity on show after us winning the Open could cause a rethink. Then again pigs might fly.

Yeah, because France and Germany are terrified of the man who was the worst Foreign Secretary ever. A man who cosies to the yank racist, a man who stayed out of the country as areas of London rioted whilst he was mayor. The whole of the EU regards Alexander Johnson as a joke. His elevation to head of the Tories is evidence that this country has lost any kind of respect or credibility it may once have had. Thatcher flogged the family silver. Johnson will flog our self respect.
