We required a two-thirds majority to enter, so why is a 2% approval acceptable to leave?

The leave campaign lied about everything, over spent and is now shown to have been illegal.

For not one moment do I believe the majority of leave voters wanted the current omnishambles, now we actually know what is on offer - instead of the figments of imagination by both sides - maybe it is time to vote on the substance of a deal than the froth of conjecture.

I also completely accept the legitimate rights of leavers to have their say, but surely no one wants the current clusterfuck we face.
There was no vote given to the UK electorate upon entry, so your ‘two-thirds majority’ to enter is fake news I’m afraid. I’m sure history has since been rewritten though and taught in schools, hence why so many younger people believe nonsense like this, and think the world didn’t exist before the EU. I actually freely travelled to the Continent before we entered the EEC, unbelievable though it sounds.

This was Cameron’s biggest mistake. He should have stipulated a percentage majority.

There was a vote to stay in in it, shortly after we joined.

It’s very hard to win a game of football when a teams attack are trying to score at one end and their defence are trying to score at the other.......

analogies like this just highlight the ridiculousness of certain brexiteers viewpoint. This is not a game, this is not be seen as a zero sum game and it’s pretty crappy you view it like that.

Be ause they like being on the gravy train of the EU......for themselves.....

Like your pal Nige who has managed to get his money out of them and is now leveraging his position as Leave Celeb In Chief to get as much money as he can thanks to saps who lap him up

We did not require a 2/3 majority to enter. That is simply wrong. The vote was something like 66% stay in, but the referendum was based on a simple majority, as it should be.

I agree with the rest of your post.

I was only a lad, but was the 2/3rds majority to stay in correct?

It was about that, and I was one of those who voted to stay in the EEC. I would vote to join the EEC tomorrow, but this EU is transitioning into something I would never vote for joining......as has been said though the vote was a simple majority....

It's not in any way the same thing
Same Mps Ken Clarke and co...... and the CBI.......
New research by Vote Leave reveals that the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) received nearly £1 million from the European Commission between 2009 and 2015 – and that the EU is the CBI's single largest source of public sector funds, which total more than £7 million.

I meant, (about the majority to stay in back then), did there have to be a 2/3rds majority to win? Some say yes, some say no. Its purely academic now, as indeed, you won this vote.

And not a day goes by that I fail to understand why you feel being represented by Farage, Widdecombe et al is in any way something to be comforted by. It frankly disgusts me.
