Genuine question about this, what difference does a general election make?

We will still get the same MPs in there, who can't decide on what they want. May even get the same party in charge despite being massively weakened due to their own hostility to each other. No new leader can renegotiate a deal, certainly not in 2 weeks AND get it passed in the house.

It would be a waste of time.

FFS just take the no deal and then have the elections. That way the nonsense is finished with for the short term and the government can go back to running the damn country.

An election might not necessarily solve anything. But it gives the people the opportunity to appoint people who will enact the will of the people.

The tories are destroying themselves here. Their voters are three quarters leave. They are going to be very severely punished.

So are labour. In fact if it went to an election I bet the turn out would be shocking... People will protest by spoiling papers

Both holding and hoping for 2nd referendum.

Doubt it - without government backing 2nd referendum doesn't happen. They know that as much as everyone else.

The SNP (at least based on what Blackford said) think they will get independence out of it (which they might, but it would destroy the SNP), and TIG think they will be able to blame Labour for the disaster that no deal will cause.

Parliament has been allowed to have around two weeks to formulate a plan they have almost managed that in the form of Custom Union thus got much closer in forming a consensus than government has had in two and half years.

think there will be a good few new faces, cant see many of the breakaway group winning .
The tories will have to go to there local constituencies to be put up for re election can see a fair few getting deselected.
labour will be mostly the same faces but any in leave areas might have a job on there hands explaining themselves , might not be people voting against but certainly not voting for them.
If the tories get a new leader which they would now, i honestly think they could unfortunately gain a working majority.

Disagree regarding low turnout. People are engaged right now. You are mistaking anger for apathy. People are angry. People vote when they are angry.

I think tories win a handsome majority on a pro brexit manifesto with a brexiteer leader. If they go with another remainer they are done.

according to the BBC, the SNP abstained and I think TIG did as well

Push comes to shove they all know they will be able to get Clarke's amendment over the line if May pushes on with her's or no deal. The interesting ploy from her might be to whip her party to go with the 2nd referendum and push her deal over a customs union that still comes with problems and hope that the people fall on her side.

Every leave voter I've spoken to has said they won't vote again.

And to be honest that's how I feel. I'm not willing to vote for a house that has effectively staged a coup against the people
