Humphrey Appleby clones abound this afternoon ; haven't the faintest idea what they're taking about, complete gobbledygook.

Genuinely glad it’s not just me , got there in the end but it took me a while . I’m somebody who takes a massive interest in politics and I was looking at the screen there like my missus looks at me when I try to drunkenly explain how the fans didn’t take to dave Watson at first but he won them over and was really instrumental in the trophies Kendall won .

So, as I see it now, MPs are coming back tomorrow to vote a "new" (ish) version of the May deal. Which is now pretty much a starting point only. Large parts of it would have been in a Labour plan, apparently.

But. LP have already said they will vote against it. The DUP havnt said so, but they will, and enough ERG loons have said they wont support it neither.

So, what is the effin point?

It's to honour the EU s request over the extension of article 50....
this now has to be signed for any deal which is now being dictated by the EU....
Labour in the past have been okish with the first part of the leave deal.........the legal part ......they were unhappy about the non legal 8 pages trade agreement which has been seperated to get past the speakers quote of not sending the same deal back 3 times - zzzzzzzzz
It won't get through anyway

They have split the original deal into 2 parts to enable Bercow to let them have another go as only voting on one part of it is 'a substantial change'

Part 1 withdrawal agreement
Part 2 Political Declaration

They are hoping that if part 1 passes then they can kick the can down the road for a while and get part 2 passed.

The problem is that the 2 parts are entwined in the agreed deal with the EU, so anyone that voted against the deal would still have the same stance (unless they changed their minds several times ala Mogg)

Like I said, whats the point?

I’ve read most of this thread but commented very little on it
I’ve taken an interest on Brexit purely on a selfish basis as 90% of what my employer manufactures is exported to Britain so a no deal Brexit would have serious consequences for me
My musings so far are
Britain wanted to leave the EU , the EU did not want Britain to leave
It was never in the EU’s interest to make things easy for Britain to leave the EU and for Britain to prosper after Brexit
It this had occurred other EU countries who are straying to the right wing of politics would use this as an argument for leaving themselves
The EU put the backstop in to protect one of their member states (ROI ) and was quite entitled to do so
The EU and the British negotiators agreed on a deal that they both obviously found palatable and the British negotiating team obviously felt they could get it through parliament , which they have obviously failed to do
The DUP are using this Brexit deal for their own political agenda and are not representing the people who put them into power
A majority of Unionists voter remain and the backstop is the best alternative to leaving the EU they can hope for
The DUP seem to call themselves British and want closer links to Britain when it suits them , but wants to claim to be Irish when it suits them
During the foot and mouth crisis Paisley famously said that the farmers were British but their cows were Irish
The British people rightly or wrongly voted to leave the EU
It’s now on the democratically elected representatives of the British people to carry out the wishes of the people
They have not got the right to second guess the electorate and tell them that they didn’t know what they voted for
Brexit means Brexit and if the current deal is the only one on the table then they should accept they or go with no deal
I don’t see why the EU should renegotiate the deal
They made a deal in good faith with the ritual negotiatioaters and it was a deal that protected them and their member states
If the British people voted for Brexit without realising the consequences then that’s not the EUs fault but rather the fault of the British parliament and its members
For those that voted leave because of immigration and for those that voted leave because they didn’t like the colour of the EU passport and wanted the old colour back I hope you enjoy your new found country are are not out of work with plenty of time but no money to enjoy it , beacause let’s face it the Brexiteers fed you a load of crap in the run up to the referendum
Already companies and financial institutions are readying themselves to leave Britain and unless some miracle happens Britain will be a poorer country after Brexit

My head hurts!
