Arrogance has got the country into this position, the arrogance of a small number demanding a referendum, the arrogance of Cameron thinking a win was a forgone conclusion, then the arrogance of "we hold all the cards" stance

He's fairly even-handed, some just go on and on about the decisions that go against them, forgetting when it's the other way round.
I think he's done a good job trying to maintain the integrity of the HoC with a pm and government continually trying to subvert it.

He courts publicity and controversy and enjoys it being all about him. He's a self publicist with a supercilious manner and completely self serving, and that's besides his condescending asides and the well documented bullying accusations.

A thoroughly dislikeable character who chooses to act on precedent only as and when it suits as of course is his prerogative.

And that's despite him being perfectly correct to disallow May's repeated attempts on MV3 and the fact that I generally sympathise with his views on brexit.

I’m not always convinced it is you know . He was criticised when he allowed an unprecedented third amendment in relation to the absence of the referendum bill and I think he pushed us significantly closer to a no deal Brexit whilst I personally heard on the tv and radio a number of ERG members praising the decision the other day. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure his opinions on Brexit are closer to mine than yours but I do think he mostly does what’s right .
I rather think that the ERG liking his decision the other day was more a bi product than intended.

You could be right though. I'm not a lover of politics and only started taking more notice of Parliament comings and goings recently as Brexit draws to a conclusion, or not. So I am only basing my judgement on recent calls, a couple of which have put his impartiality in doubt. And it isn't just me saying that mate.

On my head spins now.

EU apparently changing the 22nd May extension only if the MV gets voted through thing, to, May 7th extension, not dependent on the MV getting through. BUT, the UK must have MEP elections.....

I dislike politicians generally but find politics fascinating, I’ve found the last couple of years ridiculously gripping but more in a car crash that draws a rubberneckers eye type way .

It does appear as if it’s changing again and once it again it shows nobody has a clue .

On re-reading, you're right but what you're proposing is special status for NI that guarantees frictionless tariff free trading with the south while tariffs are imposed on goods leaving the island to the UK or EU. This would mean that the whole island would be subject to tariffs or checks with the rest of the EU, therefore not a runner.
The most straightforward way to work this is a backstop with NI remaining in the single market till there's a trade deal. This is such a blindingly obvious simple solution that it beggars belief that the DUP are in the position where they can hold the whole of Europe to ransom.
If the UK government had taken the route they originally agreed to, they would have exited the EU by next week and started trade negotiations, these negotiations would have been very favorable as the main aim would have been to harmonize markets to minimize any disruption at the border.
I'm not an expert mate but don't title documents have to show country of origin. So it would be a fairly simple process to identify those that need to go through customs. Unless of course people are falsifying documents which just makes it illegal smuggling. No?

I take on board what you say about Northern Ireland being in the customs union and single market. The main reason I'm not in favour of this is the ramifications this will have with Scotland who will demand the same thing. It's already a nightmare without bringing the break up of the United Kingdom to the table.

Anyway, that's just me. I've gotten used to nobody in here agreeing with me.:)

He's almost the only person standing up to May. Thank goodness someone is.
You're joking aren't you Bruce. Everybody is standing up to May. Even her cabinet are queuing up to stab her in the back. If I was a betting man I'd say she will be gone by the end of next week. I'd go as far as t say she's as isolated in parliament as I am in this thread.lol

Almost transfer deadline day this for us.

In line to sign a striker, no idea who though. Kenwright working in the background 24-7 to secure one ahead of the closing time.

A scenario being pandered about that the queen makes Corbin pm

My head just hurts with it all mate.

The uncertainty is just staggering. Nobody really has any idea how this is all going to pan out. If it wasn't so critically important it would be downright comical.

I'm not sure about the technicalities of moving goods between EU member states, so all I'll say is that it might add delays or confusion as you check goods to see if they are tariff compliant. At the moment, it's a given that any goods leaving Irish ports for france originated in the single market. This would no longer be the case.
You have a point about Scotland but in all honesty, it's likely they'll push for independence again anyway and given how this has unfolded, they'll likely get it.
It would be better to have a temporary backstop in NI so that a bilateral trade deal could be successfully negotiated before any sign of Scottish independence.
The NI backstop is a temporary solution to avoid a hard border. If it works it could avoid the need for a hard border in Britain one day.
It's a mess really.
