The first two sentences of the first link say it all: "...The government explicitly states that the leaflet is arguing for the UK remaining in the EU. So it is not attempting to be even-handed..."

QED, JEBUS...
Yes, on the basis that the government position was that it would be, on balance, better to remain.

If you factually consider all of your options and then conclude, that in the interests of the country one decision is better, you would be duty bound to advise the population of that position.

For example, if you contested that it would be beneficial for your health to only eat a diet of gammon and I said, no no, it's not the best idea. You might seek to ask a doctor what the best course of action would be and he might say, you will survive eating Gammon, but on balance, the advice I give, is that is you don't as it will be largely detrimental to your health.

With regard to your second paragraph, I believe Cameron should have stated his support for Remain within the ambit of the Remain campaign - NOT in his official capacity as PM, backing it up with £9.5 million of tax payers money. That's my point.

I really don't understand what you are trying to say with your third paragraph. Is it showing 'best interests?' as a personal thing? (i.e. Cameron believed his view was in the best interests of everyone).

How ridiculous! How the hell can you say something like that?

And qualifying it with 'It seems' doesn't exonerate you in any way whatsoever...

I say it because your comment suggested you believed that the government had done something dishonest or wrong by publishing a leaflet supporting remain

In fairness Cameron never campaigned as pro brexit on his campaign for the premiership, so not sure why brexit should be given special treatment

Ah, you've got it at last!

Cameron showed what a total outhouse he is/was by taking the actions I have mentioned in my previous posts. And then jumping ship when it didn't go his way. Further compounded by not making ANY plans for the possibility of the vote going again him. An odious individual (as was ultimately shown by his actions) who wasted (as I've said numerous times before) £9.5 million of taxpayers money on his personal preference.

He represented the government, who should act in the interests of the electorate.

I accept the point about Cameron's position, but what he did was entirely legal.

So what do you call that leaflet then? A neutral, 'down the middle' statement? Don't make me laugh!

In fairness, reading it today, it was pretty much on the nose.

It says, if we vote leave:
we won't be able to access the single market without paying into the EU and accepting the core freedoms.
it will cost jobs
we will face uncertainty and instability
Living standards will be adversely affected.
The pound will lose value.
Some household items would increase in price.
we could lose cheap airfares, free roaming and reciprocal healthcare abroad.
