That's great! As the backstop that was agreed by May, then rejected by May was her suggestion, maybe you can give us an insight into this new one that we can all agree on. Considering the original backstop was accepted by the full Cabinet, including the then Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, and the chief Brexit negotiator David Davis, and signed off by the then chief Brexit negotiator Dominic Raab, these people seem unable to come up with an alternative except some vague reference to "technological solutions" none of which currently exist. You seem to think there is an alternative, care to share it with us?
Basically it's an empty promise that will never be fulfilled. A bit like Gordon Brown and his impossible tests before we would join the Euro. But hey, whatever gets us "out", although we will be out in name only. No EU workers coming over here, who did all the crappy jobs. They'll be replaced by people from the Philippines or Brazil, or wherever there is abject poverty, but people think the UK is the land of milk and honey. Nothing will change, except our ability to be part of a massive trading bloc.

Lord digby Jones Just on radio 5 then , Emma Barnett, is just worth a listen . I really am starting to think that all this is me , to be be fair she gave him a relatively hard time but she’s just put to him he said on Andrew Neil during the debate Not one job is at risk because of Brexit . It’s pointed out about that jobs have already been lost and he’s replied Nothing to do with Brexit it’s to do with uncertainty around Brexit caused by a lack of support . I mean it’s incredible.

A survey from the WEF only last week warned that international cooperation was dwindling in the face of things like Trump and Brexit. What is happening is damaging attempts to work together rather than support them.
Indeed, and with the planet facing global problems such as a rising population and habitats destroyed through climate change, the need for global cooperation and understanding has never been more crucial. The regressive global trends towards nationalism, ‘America first’ attitudes and xenophobia show little hope for the future of humanity IMO. This is the primary reason I voted remain, as a rejection of those ideals. Couldn’t care less if we are slightly better off or have less people with foreign accents when I go to buy milk.

Its spot on in ten years time the car industry jobs will be lost anyway as the electric cars are improving it is inevitable that car industries a massive employer worldwide will change big style - you can only blame the hold up on the negotiations on Brexit - not Brexit itself - will the EU change their mind? I think there is 39 billion reasons they may - they stated the same when the Euro crashed no help - they helped.......

The EU is popcorning the buggers now.

Britain would keep paying into the EU budget for years after a no-deal Brexit under contingency plans drawn up by the European Commission.

In a move likely to enrage Brexiteers and cause yet another political row in Westminster, on Wednesday Brussels unveiled proposals for the UK to keep up its payments for the 2019 EU budget and beyond.

The UK would have to consent to the plan, with a deadline to agree set for 18 April – deliberately placed after the effects of a no-deal would have become apparent.

Joe did you listen to him ? He was talking about jobs being lost and those companies leaving the U.K. because of the uncertainty over Brexit but claiming Brexit had zero responsibility for that . That seems utterly bizarre .

Just to get to your point you’re now car industry jobs will go ? You think that’s going to happen , so if you’re right doesn’t matter if it’s now or in 10 years ? It’d matter to me if I worked there but you think that that was the plan for them to go , prior to Brexit ? I honestly don’t know enough about that argue but is it based on anything in particular evidence wise ?

And you wonder why we want out of this......but it may well be a reasonable thing to pay if we are still within a transition period and it may well be included in the divorce payment anyway. If it’s additional then it just goes to prove that the ‘backstop’ needed a time limit or a unilateral mechanism to leave....

So the production of electric cars provides no jobs?

I don’t particularly rate Digby Jones. I think the point he was making though is that it’s the uncertainty that causes business a problem not Brexit itself. Had the U.K. politicians actually supported the government and not fought a Remainer rearguard action there would have been more certainty of outcome and business would have planned accordingly......

We didn’t “need” out, Peter.

And they are just making sure we honour our commitments.

Don’t believe the spivs who tell you we can just “walk away’ from them.

I think he came across appallingly to be honest pete. I don’t agree with the position but I can sort of understand it but he just came across as weaseling away from accepting he’d got it wrong . If he’d said he’d misjudged it but he hadn’t factored in the uncertainty etc he’d have come across a lot better

He’s not very impressive tbh.....
