I think he was also in favour of Scottish independence, but I may be wrong.....
Oh yes.....
"Scottish independence 'would be cataclysmic for the world', ex-Nato head warns
Lord (George) Robertson says 'the forces of darkness would simply love it' if Scotland voted Yes in September 18 referendum" Daily Telegraph 08 Apr 2014

I use them as pregnant pauses. Where a comma or somesuch presents steady rhythmic punctuation, using ellipsis invites the reader to halt reading and think for a second...

...I never use them to hide words or suggest hidden meanings.

No idea what the technically-correct usage is supposed to be, neither do I care. English is flexible like that.

Spot on with the above, dh (and no, I won't use an ellipsis, and there is no need to pause).

;)

Thanks mate it means a lot .

If I was clever enough two things I’d want to study, how kopites can be be so different to us and the link between Brexit and ellipsis .

Kopitism is a cult, so your studies would be based on readings of other cults like scientology, raelism and wokeism.

Regarding ellipsis and Brexit-sympathies (sounds like a Stereophonics songtitle) your first step would be finding out how those modest dots are used. If the intended uses are different, then the link may only be an asthetic one (similar wiring in the right side of the brain), but if the intention behind those little dots are almost uniform, then we're talking left side of the brain i.e. similar logic calculations. Now that could be fascinating.

I say it in a light hearted way mate that’s how the original post was meant but being serious . it seems obvious they seem get used more by Brexit supporters . After i’d Posted I even googled a bit to see if it was a thing , what I did find is they’re used more frequently by older people and given the accepted demographic of Brexit voters it’s probably as simple as that .

It wasn’t in anyway a criticism or a sly dig just a general observation, I’m certainly not the grammar police and I’m sure some are used correctly and some I’m fairly sure aren’t . If anything just an idle musing in between the often fractious postings.

On the kopite front what interests me , again an idle observation, is how two clubs that share a city and even more that most clubs can share families and friendships etc can be so radically different . Not just a little different but so completely different , it’s not the success either because other clubs more successful than us aren’t like that . It’s incredibly odd to be honest .

anyway off topic I suppose :red:

I don’t uses ellipses. I just use a series of dots as a longer break than a fullstop while continuing the conversation. I also use them to signify that evidently the discussion is not over..... People getting into a state (not you) about a series of dots should get out more.....

If you read my original post and one above pete it was an idle observation, certainly not intended to be grammar policing or offend . Nothing more than casual reflection . It’s becomr a conversation today because several posters have began to discuss it I’d assumed it had been a one post matter some time ago that would never be discussed again .

Anyway those French hey ?

The bloke discussed on here a few times , leading the shouting against Soubry, organising a protest and ringing into lbc amongst other things . who seems to be the self elected leader of the yellow jackets Janes Goddard has it seems been arrested for a public order offence .

There is some lovely footage of his shouting , it might be at the police but tough to tell , if they want a war he’ll give them a war and that one in particular isn’t even English . Fair to say This bloke is an absolute sweetheart .

I’ve said more than once it’s a shame for people like you that want Brexit, that protests have now been hijacked by the likes of this bloke and SYL. It’s perfectly legitimate if you want Brexit to protest but it shouldn’t be used by these thugs to push their agendas .

They flourish in this environment and I do think the media have responsibility pushing a traitors line and warning of consequences, we’ve seen that here . In my opinion That’s not how things should be .

don't think he is really a problem , bit of a minor anti celebrity best he can hope for is a UK version of the proud boys in USA.
Problem will be when we get a clever media savvy (more than likely a tory ) taking up the mantel .
The left wing view on brexit has long been overshadowed or ignored generally by most media , a lot of working class people like myself voted for it ,some unions backed it, but its generally been overshadowed by the likes of this fella.
Not brexit related but it will be interesting to see were the leave vote on the left go to in the future, not sure the current london centric labour party is that attractive to them.
