That's me told. The Good Friday Agreement had nothing to do with David Trimble, Bertie Ahern, Bill Clinton and his American administration, the Irish government, the entire Unionist population of Northern Ireland, the entire nationalist population of the north of Ireland, notwithstanding the previously mentioned protagonists, Bono, the Irish diaspora, or the European Union.

Laughable.
Really it went to a referendum and they signed it not EU commissioners ............

Do you know who chaired the talks and what he said about the E.U. , I mean you think he’d have a idea .

"I don't think the European Union was essential in the [Good Friday Agreement] talks themselves, but I believe the talks would never have occurred had there not been a European Union."
HIndsight is a marvelous thing and who needs an expensive polictical talking shop in Europe ?..................

Thanks for that mate, I`m glad someone else understands Joey speak.

You`ve taken a real weight off me.

The thing is, if you're not tribal about this and just want a decent outcome regardless of who provides it (ie having the interests of the country at heart), then it would surely have made more sense to push for a cross-party approach from the offing. The Tories played internal politics in getting us into this mess in the first place, and have been riven by division throughout, but as several Corbynites on here have said before, Labour were quite happy sitting back and letting the Tories make a mess of things so they could win the next election.

It's hard to shake the image that both parties are in this for themselves rather than for what's best for the public.

I think, from what Labour have said (maintaining environmental, food and employment standards) they want the greater public good as an outcome of all this, and demonstrate better stewardship credentials as a consequence.
