I think the Tories know it's better to have May fronting it until after the leaving date. Anyone who comes in now will have the same impossible job of trying balance the eurosceptics within the party and trying to get a deal through the wider house. Once it has been settled there will be bloodshed.

must be mad , wanting to stay, without DUP support she will not be able to govern effectively, just be one defeat after another at there time of choosing

The DUP are in a tricky position as well though they will never have it so good, a general election could see their mandate significantly reduced, out of coalition and will have to look seriously at Stormont again and getting those institutions up and running. Currently they have these institutions disabled, have nationalist parties shut down and are wielding power from Westminster. They might not support the brexit deal, but they could continue to support the government broadly. There is much in their interest of being in power in England.

Said in the other thread a lot of talk that Rees-Mogg has overplayed his hand and they’ve lost momentum on the back of it .

He's had no choice. Once that draft is agreed, that goes ahead unless people act against it now.

I don't think he cares whether May goes or not - it's all about being against the deal now so he can blame the poor outcome on Brexit on it not going exactly his way, which of course would have been perfect and not a disaster, because of course it would as Rees-Mogg knows all and the plebs should fall in line and listen to him.

I think they mean by the way he worded his question and the impromptu press conference outside . I’ve seen a lot of criticism from columnists and pundits that he’s overestimated his position and may have undermined the whole process .

That is self contradictory, pete.

Compromising is the very essence of negotiating.

Thats basically it.

Unfortunately I don't think most Conservative MP's understand this. My suspicion (having met the odd one or 2) is that they cannot comprehend any negotiation where the other party can say "no". It is not their experience of life. So negotiation to them is you draw up exactly what you want and the other person gives it to you.

Unfortunately to a lesser or greater degree thats broadly how they live their lives and how the political establishment treat them. Unfortunately the EU couldn't give a hoot who they are and even if they could can't be seen to be behaving in a decent or civil war (it's kind of not the point of the creation). So they have been exposed badly.

I know I've said it before, but if any company I've worked for negotiated as poorly as they have on several occasions during this process at any point in a negotiation, not only would the person be sacked, the team would be removed and the company would be effectively blacklisted. Thats what needs to happen to the Conservatives now. They are incompetent and wouldn't survive in the real world. They need to be blacklisted by the electorate (though I suspect that won't entirely happen).

The idea that this is solved by removing May is laughable. I saw Dominic Raab resigned to pursue leadership ambitions to get a better deal. He negotiated and signed off on the last deal. What sort of idiot resigned within a day of a day he negotiated not being up to scratch?

I sense a lot of this. There's a lot of hot air from that ERG group. They talk a lot about what they will do, but deliver very little.

Even today all the supposed resignations they'd have, Gove Leadsom, Mourdant, they have all stayed in the cabinet. At their core they are a fairly cowardly bunch and will toe the line when the time comes. I think May knows this deep down as well. The majority of them will toe the line and sell the people out.
