good point about bed blockers ,with people staying in jobs now to 67 ect and behond it stops younger people getting a decent step on the career ladder,.maybe there should be some sort of system to help people get out of work if they want to?

With respect, that wasn't really what I was referring to. It's a false perception that there are a fixed number of jobs to go around and therefore people staying in work for longer is preventing young people from entering the workforce. In most instances, the two are doing completely different roles (akin to a CEO and entry level employee).

What I meant by 'bed blockers' is that by making it very hard to sack someone, you not only make it harder to replace a poor worker with a potentially better one, but you also make it riskier to hire someone young and inexperienced because it can be harder to sack those who don't work out.

That "controversial" Arron Banks interview on Marr's show this morning: not the wisest decision for him to give that in the end. I'm sure his ERG mates must have pressed for the BBC to give him a chance to put his case, but Marr has just made him look like the dodgy arrogant tool he is.

It'd be great to see him in jail for a few years. For all his bravado he looks like he's bricking it now.

There is an element of truth in that, but the removal of automatic retirement at 65 (and the reasons why it was removed, ie pressure from that part of society that has had all the money spent on it these past thirty years) was a daft idea at the time, remains a daft one now and it affects far more of the workforce than just the top.

We have an ageing society though, and politicians put off the hard decisions because this demographic are so politically powerful. Already the vast majority of both the welfare and healthcare budgets are spent on pensioners. I wouldn't suggest that's a bad thing, but it's not fiscally sustainable.

You accuse others (well, me really) of arrogance, but throughout this thread, and indeed elsewhere, valid concerns of people have been roundly dismissed as project fear, selling the country down etc. No doubt the letter from 50 business leaders in the Times today will be similarly brushed aside as irrelevant. Indeed, already there have been comments that their opinions are only as valid of those of any other regular @Joe.

Now, of course, you're completely entitled to your opinion of me, and others on this thread, and I won't deny that I have let emotions get the better of me at times on here, but perhaps some humility would not go amiss from your end too.

At the risk of the usual attacks, I'll reply to the above.

I'll quote the pertinent parts of what what my reply was directed at:
"...So nobody disagrees..."

"...Nobody can really point..."

"...Nobody trusts..."

"...Nobody can answer..."

"...The NHS £350m a week line was a lie..."

So the person comes out with what may be termed definitive statements. He is speaking for every single person in in the UK? Really, Bruce? You swallow that without question?

As for the old chestnut of the NHS and £350 million, you know full well that I have explained many times in this thread that it was an equivalent figure, and neither the Remain nor Leave campaign had any executive power to implement anything. That is the remit of the Government of the day.

Hence my single sentence response...

It is a terrible state of affairs, especially given the impact that it has had on everyone else. I am not saying we should go down the Logan's Run route but there really should be a rebalancing of priorities.

I doubt it will ever get easier. (Well if NI leaves the UK of it's own accord then it would!) Just like Cameron leaving after the vote, this government is not going to take on the responsibility and has just kicked the can down the road...indefinitely.

The only thing is you can't really blame them as there is no magic deal, but it is just annoying they (you can include politicians on all sides here) refuse to see sense and can the whole article 50 until there is an acceptable work around. The only way to do that is find out the answer to the question is brexit worth breaking the union of the United Kingdom, or is a Norway type deal good enough for the majority of brexiteers.
It's a better deal than the two years transitional deal = yes, but with a deal after that of us leaving with a trade deal outside the single market, and customs union ,,,,,,, it has been pointed out by certain backbenchers its a clearer, cheaper option than the two year transitional deal that is ongoing for eternity the Norway option temporarily means we can leave on the date given.......
