The European Commission has the initiative to propose legislation. During the ordinary legislative procedure, the Council (which are ministers from member state governments) and the European Parliament (elected by citizens) can make amendments and must give their consent for laws to pass.

So, as @Foot Long Hot Dog says, there isn't a single EU law in existence that UK elected officials haven't voted on. It's sadly quite indicative of this thread, and some may argue this whole process, that you're absolutely certain that you're right, when you're actually miles from the mark.

I asked a question of when did we get to vote ? Ireland has had referendums each time a major change has taken place. I fully agree that every one of our governments and our civil service have gone along with the EU, bit by bit, until we finally said no, we want out.....

Perhaps a misunderstanding, I meant when did we, the electorate, get to vote, like Ireland do on a regular basis....

Ireland is pretty much the only EU country that has done this on a regular basis Pete. The vast majority of countries, in the vast majority of instances, act in the way democracies tend to act, with elected officials making decisions on our behalf.

France and Holland had votes over Maastricht. We have been royally stitched up over the years by the political elite, of all parties. Even now, having voted to leave, we have the nonsense from the Lords, the demand for a second vote, leaving but still taking rules from the EU, Hammond doing his level best to talk the country down on behalf of the EU etc etc. I’m not one of the revolutionary types but enough is enough.....

Mostly I am Roydo, and when they eventually gave us the opportunity to vote we did, but now they are purposely trying to undermine the vote. Of course we weren’t asked how we should leave, it would have been impossible, and we were supposed to vote to remain......

So you want to 'take back control', which in essence means giving it back to politicians to act on your behalf, but are then unhappy when they act on your behalf? I wonder if you understand the way government in the UK works as much as you do the way governance of the EU works?

No Bruce, I am a very fair person. We vote, we accept the decision. That has always been the case until now....

I have no problem with people protesting, that is their right. I happen to believe that change should come via the vote and not some peaceful or even violent protest. I would guess over 90% of the U.K. population have never been out ‘protesting’ and that those that do would probably protest at a party invitation ......I’ve not had a cloistered life, anything but, however I do believe in the rule of law and democracy....

So we did get to vote on all of them then, just not in the way you meant, as Frank the welder from Barnsley didn’t get his chance to cast his individual vote on clean beaches regulations.
