I hear another project fear is now becoming reality, the Galileo satellite system we are are to be removed from, in response May has found the money magic tree again, and is to launch her own. Hopefully with her attached to it!

Yeah right oh, as if we can just replace Galileo with money we haven’t got and in a timeframe of how long exactly?

Absolute nads, and yet another example of ‘project oh crap there’s that as well ffs’.

How long before some swivel eyed Brexiteer goes on twitter and reckons he can summon the spirit of the blitz and knock one up his shed out of some spare bits and bobs he’s got lying around, a massive roll of turkey bacofoil and a a handful of display fireworks.

He states that as he’s being honest, he jokingly refers to himself as part of the liberal elite, as he’s done alright for himself and knows that he’s got enough behind him that Brexit won’t significantly affect his life.

Which makes his stance on it not based on self interest.

He lets anyone have their say, what he doesn’t allow and quite rightly, is for people to come on his show and spout soundbites and untruths without substantiating them. So I can see why you think the he’s not allowing ‘debate’ to flow and he has to consistently interrupt Brexiteers in order to get them to justify or retract most of the dogma and waffle they come on to spout.

LBC has plenty of other shows where the callers (and presenters) can spout bullcrap unopposed.

Well actually I’m quite pleased about this. We already have the technical capability within the U.K., we already make full satellite systems and about 40% of the worlds small satellites and developed major portions of the EU system (satellites from SSTL in Guildford and Astrium in Stevenage and ground systems from Airbus in Portsmouth). The EU will not give contracts to U.K. space and tech businesses so we should just do it ourselves. So the sneering remainers need to find something different to sneer at, because we know we can do this......

Who’s funding the £10BN cost like?

A mere incidental I suppose.

It won’t be £10Bn. Considering we have already done a great deal of the design and build ourselves, I would be surprised if it came to more than £4-6Bn. The money will be going into U.K. technology and will help the UKSA to achieve a decent % of future space revenues. It’s a no brainer......

the European space agency is a totally separate legal identity to the EU , its funded from a central EU fund which we have contributed to , there is nothing stopping us contributing the same amount directly to them instead of into the EU funding pot they currently use.
The UK would have a very good case , for either staying as a member or being reimbursed for there previous funding of projects they are no longer able to access , due to political pressure being put on the agency from the EU, and not from the UK breaking its side of the bargain.
Not sure if the amount we have paid into this project up to this moment in time , but I am sure it will be in the billions.
just deduct it from the leaving Bill if they don't play ball, or take them to the international courts if its a hard brexit.

As you say, we are members of the ESA anyway and it has nothing to do with the EU. The EU however have ownership of Galileo and their negotiators are trying to screw us and do our space companies down. We have as good as anyone when it comes to Space technology and manufacture, we threw our lot in with the EU and now they are attempting to stitch us up. We can do it ourselves, we really can, but the EU do not have the cryptology nor the small satellite technology that we have. They can sod off in my opinion and I look forward to our own technology companies reaping the benefits......
