Yeah mate that’s nothing to do with protection from outside the EU. That’s labelling content of current eu products and wouldn’t concern a mass outbreak spoiled eat was imported. Mainly because of the Border Inspection Points locates throughly the Union and the ability of producers from the countries to only import into the EU if they are approved establishments and are audited and approved by directorate f

Let's recap the conversation:
You: It’ll be project fear when some dodgy South American meat is transited through Europe and illegally brought through a U.K. port before being distributed throughout the country and causing a mass food incident
Me:Nothing new to see here.
There's been dodgy stuff in various meat products for a long time. Don't you ever watch the news...?
You: Like what
Me:
First paragraph: https://www.euractiv.com/section/ag...ganisations-expose-misleading-meat-labelling/

Or this one: https://www.globalmeatnews.com/Arti...port-slams-misleading-meat-industry-practices
The first paragraph under the sub-heading 'Contaminated'.

First point: we have imported meat from South America for decades, Argentina being a prime example. Never looked at the side of a corned beef tin?
Second point: Nothing new, because of what I have written in the previous line to this.
Third point: You asked for examples with your phrase 'Like what'
Fourth point: I gave examples.
Fifth point: You talk about protection from outside the EU. I refer you to my first point, above.

Is this you joking again?

I'm genuinely asking, as yesterday I pointed out something you said that was a bit daft - and you said it was a joke?

The lad was pretty clear he was talking about the fact that currently there are currently both checks at the border and audits at approved establishments to ensure production safety. Hence why we have been able to safely import meat from approved suppliers world-wide for decades.

He seems to know what he is talking about.

Apologies if this was a joke and it passed me by!

What ARE you talking about?

Read my last post fully, and you will see the thread of the conversation. If you can't see it, then it's not my problem.

I think the crux of the issue might be something like:
Earlier it was pointed out that there aren't enough British veterinary staff currently to man borders, additionally, there aren't enough to man our abattoirs.
What you're glossing over is the fact that we'd need even more still to inspect 3rd parties abroad to ensure they were good enough to be consumed.

I have and you seemed to have missed his main point?

The main thrust of your argument after he pointed out the articles you linked to were about labelling, rather than production from outside the EU, is that "we have imported meat from South America for decades, Argentina being a prime example". His point was that we have safely done this because we have been a member of the EU and the protections the single market has in place.

My point being thta what will come in in the future will in all probability be no different to now. The Government not addressing a staffing problem... Tell me about it, having worked within it for 30-odd years, and constantly battled against it as a TU rep over a long period of time...

Anders,
The content, both from outside, and from inside our country. The EU has done nothing with regard to the internal issue... The first article I linked showed that one kind of meat was passed off as a totally different kind. You can have a million staff and cowboys will still try to pull that kind of thing. That's all. Despicable (the practise, not you!).

roydo,
I could have copied and pasted what I have posted previously, but that would then merely be repetition. Better, I believe, that the post is gone over again.

But I may be wrong...

So replace a proven, working model of customs checks with a totally new one, run by a Government you say have a track record of addressing staffing problems then? "In all probability".

Sound.

If you paste the post in, then its obvious which post you are referring to.

But he wasn't talking about relabelling or mislabeling - he was specifically talking about dodgy spoiled meat that could cause a mass incident.

He then specifically talked about the measures the single market has taken place to ensure abattoirs are audited and approved by directorate F.

I agree mislabeling food is despicable, but this is a completely different point?

So there we have it, you've admitted that recent governments couldn't manage their remit adequately with the EU taking a heavy workload, never mind the cluster phuck that will occur when they will have to take on a lot more responsibility.

So there I have what? The Governments of the day have deliberately kept staffing below that which is required for as long as I can remember. Why do you think there was all the fuss about passports in 1980? Why,more recently, about the staffing in HMRC, and other Government Departments. It's got nothing to do with the EU, but you somehow manage to turn it into an EU issue.

I'm happy to discuss things with you, but when you simply wish to plough the EU furrow come what may...
