Machinery of Government Change

I am making this statement to bring to the attention of the House a Machinery of Government change.
It is essential that in navigating the UK's exit from the European Union, the Government is organised in the most effective way. To that end I am making some changes to the division of functions between the Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU) and the Cabinet Office.
DExEU will continue to lead on all of the Government’s preparations for Brexit: domestic preparations in both a deal and a no deal scenario, all of the necessary legislation, and preparations for the negotiations to implement the detail of the Future Framework. To support this, DExEU will recruit some new staff, and a number of Cabinet Office officials coordinating work on preparedness will move to DExEU while maintaining close ties with both departments.
I will lead the negotiations with the European Union, with the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union deputising on my behalf. Both of us will be supported by the Cabinet Office Europe Unit and with this in mind the Europe Unit will have overall responsibility for the preparation and conduct of the negotiations, drawing upon support from DExEU and other departments as required. A number of staff will transfer from DExEU to the Cabinet Office to deliver that.
There will be no net reduction in staff numbers at DExEU given the recruitment exercise described above.

Interesting speculation but I can only speak for myself. I made my own decision and was not influenced by any 'far right', the media, or the governments 'vote remain' pamphlet. I did my own research and had no hesitation in voting 'leave'.
that's fair enough.
Anyone who's on here still defending 'leave' has probably wanted out for a long time. I don't think there's anything that could convince you otherwise, even economic hardship.
But, I do think there is a sizable percentage who got caught up in the hype of the leave campaign and might change their vote given the chance.
The vote is what it is. Leave won, but if I was a UK citizen, I'd be fuming about the process, fuming about how the process managed to go straight from A to Z without passing through B,C,D etc....

The Ashcroft poll about when people made their minds up was interesting, note how many decided on the day ffs!

I was deffo The Last Few Days. In the last week or so before the vote, it was a natural conversation piece on the doorstep while delivering stuff, and I based my decision on some of those chats. Ergo, I didnt really have a strong feeling either way, other than I didnt think the EU was that bad, more annoying than anything, but free trade and free movement was pretty sound.

One utter bigot swung it for me though. "Leave EU" flags all over his house, so I said "No doubt which way you are voting then!"

"And why wouldnt you?" he foamed, literally, "Its about time those that make money get to keep it, and not prop up cases like over there", pointing to South Wales.

I could not vote for something a man like that would.

I am sure others did more detailed research though.

You remainers don't half jump to conclusions. I made my decision after I had done my research.

Go on then, what? I outlined my own admittedly amateur research above. But its 100% true. Was there ever a point in your research where you edged towards voting Remain?

Posts like this are why I like these pages.
Thanks for the refreshingly honest view Roydo.
I think you're in a pretty good position to gauge public opinion and this seems as good a way as any to make a decision.

Sorry, but my gaster is flabbered. You mean to say that a vote that important was decided by meeting some clown who was voting leave? There were clowns on both sides but to be influenced by one, and actually admit to it..............................!

Seems fair enough to me. If, after all the campaigning, you're still 50/50 and don't know how you'll vote and you meet someone who's views you could never share, which tips you one way, then fine. Sometimes the smallest thing can give you the moment of clarity you need to make a decision.

Yep. Pretty much. I was leaning towards Remain, based only on free trade and free movement anyrate, but like all of us, get dead annoyed by the political crap in the EU, but that man swung my decision.

Still waiting for your research btw.

Last two posts.o_O The highly intelligent remainers then.

Those two?

Great research mate. At least I have the stones to admit I was undecided and was swayed by a bigot.

You?
