A hard border will inevitably lead to military checkpoints to protect it and that puts the peace process in danger.

Why would we need soldiers on the border? Couldn't we just hire some more border staff?

And Brexit wasn't just an English thing. It couldn't have been won without votes from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, even the majority of people in Northern Ireland and Scotland voted Remain.

Doesn’t matter if they were Civil Servants or not, it would still be seen as British reinforcement of the border and historically that has never gone down well.

I’m not sure some realise how porous the border actually is, something like 200 separate crossing points and countless local shortcuts on top of that. That would take some level of surveillance to stop people literally crossing a field and entering the UK.

Just the latest in a long list of "wish we had thought of that" before voting unfortunately. Undemocratic, uninformed, lied to. Great.

Lied to - yep, by both sides;
uninformed - depends on where you draw the line between 'informed' and 'uninformed'. And this applies equally to both campaigns;
Undemocratic - Nope, don't think so. Go examine the process. The process was entirely democratic, in that all available to vote were given due notice.

lol

I get the impression that most of the people who live near the border want the easy, nip across to see himself and back for teatime that more or less exists now...as you would.
But on this I'm with the Brits...they will know about the nip across thing too. So yeah, you want this type of border, you - the EU pay for it

Would it be deemed undemocratic if one side was found to be breaking campaign funding laws?

And sure, you could say both sides were at it, £9m on a brochure and all that but that would make it doubly undemocratic, wouldn't it?

If that's the case, it means it was a complete charade, designed to separate a fat beast from the herd for the waiting predators.
And those predators will reward the architects handsomely for handing us over to them.

So now we have the bizarre situation where the Speaker orders Davis to reveal Brexit papers to parliament, but Davis ignores him and only gives half of them because he wasn't sure that the Brexit committee would keep them secret. But it's okay, as we're in control.

It's interesting to read the report on the UK's poor social mobility this morning. It's interesting to note that mobility is poorest in leave voting areas, thus supporting the hypothesis that it was a protest vote by the 'left behind', but it's also notable that nowhere in the recommendations by the authors is 'leaving the EU' put forward as a way of improving matters. Instead it's a range of recommendations that are, and have always been, within the remit of the government.

Give up your hypotheses, Bruce. You've been diong it for over a year now...
