Davis is blaming the Germans and French for the impasse over Brexit - trying the divide and rule. May called in EU business leaders in an attempt to try and get them to put pressure on their governments. The Tories keep changing their mind over the island of Ireland depending on whether they need the DUP vote in any particular week - no wonder the Irish PM wants written guarantees that the UK government will uphold the Belfast Agreement.

The EU have said that there are three areas that are being negotiated the island of Ireland, EU citizens' rights and the money the EU owes the EU - the divorce bill.

The UK's contribution to the EU budget

According to this House of Commons paper, published 7th October 2017,

"The UK Government has made no formal response to the European Council’s position or the Commission’s position paper" Payment on leaving the EU (page 16).

Incredible. Time is ticking and the Tories have not even bothered responding by October to the EU over what it is going to pay. So when Davis says that they are near on all three issue he is clearly telling porkies. Similarly, when they say, 'May offered 20 billions at Florence' no she didn't. No wonder the EU gave them 2 weeks to settle the three issues the Tories agreed to talk about.

Davis claims that the EU are putting 'politics before prosperity'. Unfortunately, for Davis it is the political civil war in the Tory party that is leading the paralysis at the heart of the Tories negotiation stance. I think they want to leave the EU without a deal, as they don't know what type of deal they want. Many Tories are not bothered by WTO tariffs as they are not really interested in industry anyway, and view it as an opportunity to damage EU industry, in particular Germany.

Ireland is being used as a pawn by Brussels. The Irish PM is desperate for a deal with the U.K. because he knows that his economy will collapse without one. He knows that the border question cannot be answered without knowing the final deal. Numerous EU people are reminding May that there’s only two weeks left, which I think started about a week ago. This strikes me as a weakness in the EU. We should continue to offer no concrete proposals on money, and push ahead with a Brexit time and date, this will focus everybody’s mind........

You can’t be both a pawn and have a vested interest Pete.

Varadkar is doing what any head of state would be doing, protecting his own country first and foremost.

But yes I agree that his public statements are beneficial to the EU while negotiating is ongoing.

Has it come to this?

Original pirate material you're listening to the streets

Anyway, now Merkel is in the crap, when do you think Germany will wake up and try to keep the U.K. in the EU.......

So they couldn’t do a deal and it now looks like Merkel will be ‘caretaker’ Chancellor, and these were the same people who were gloating that May only got 43% of the vote. Merkel would kill to get anywhere near 43%.......
