Seeing you post, Joey, I thought this thread being used again and your post would be about the gobeens in the House of Lords and their vote later tonight. That place should be closed permanently and all the cranks and kiddie-fiddlers should be sent packing...
I seen Norman on your bike tebbits orating he called them foreigners to aghast from the wet Lib Dems he was saying your more worried about them, and not our subjects living abroad lol

It's an abolition job in the waiting an elected upper house on PP election would be far better idea imo!
To keep any government in toe !

No Bruce just doing my duty to raise funds for the GOT ;)
I got a spoof email to say I owed papal apple 800 dollars
Never followed thst thread reported it though
As for stocks and shares Bruce is that not your game?lol
See the French elections could be in a right mess now as the favourite is going to court for maybe prosecution that will rule him out!
Brexit in the UK may be a sideline if Le Pen gets in!
Le pen has gone up in the polls the last few weeks, looking a bit worrying for the election, they tried to smear some around her but it hasnt turned the tide

Brexit will be a bigger EU worry than Brexit if she gains power forecast say it will just end up a free trading block as it was once before if she gains power in France she even wants France out of the Euro - DP today forecast the curruption case he will get charged guilty of fraud with public money his ratings are plumitting!

Lords vote to amend the Bill.

' The government has been defeated after the House of Lords said ministers should guarantee EU nationals' right to stay in the UK after Brexit.

The vote, by 358 to 256, is the first Parliamentary defeat for the government's Brexit bill.

However, MP's will be able to remove their changes when the Bill returns to Parliament.

Ministers say the issue is a priority but must be part of a deal protecting UK expats overseas.'

So what's the point?

I happen to think you need some sort of upper house just to keep the others 'honest' (yeah I know). But the veto has been eroded over the years to be almost - forget almost, it IS useless.

So they can't actually be stopped (from doing anything) unless the Commons vote against it.

but if the Govt. say...you know what, we hear what you're saying - OK the 3million have 'special rights / exemptions' whatever.
That doesn't carry any power of reciprocal rights for Ex-Pats abroad.

Like @peteblue said - They stitched us up on the way in, don't let them stitch us up on the way out.
Don't worry Pete, our own mob will do that for us.

wish they would do away with them, daft in this day and age a title given at birth gives you more rights than anyone else.

Back in the day when the Lords WERE some sort of check and balance on the Commons I might've disagreed, but the way it is now - what's the point of them.
Seems now the only check and balance on the Govt. was The Eu...and Brexit is OUR check and balance on them.
If we leave the EU and abolish the Lords, but keep the monarchy, who stops the latter day Oliver (or Olivia) Cromwell from doing what the anti Trump mob think he will.

Just watched that old fossil Norman Tebbit on Sky News and he was seriously put out by the House of Lords seeking protection for 'foreigners 'as he referred to them. He then went on a rant about standing up to the Kaiser! Unbelievable

It is very sad. Firstly these are human beings we're talking about. Secondly, they're human beings that contribute an awful lot to this country.

same could be said for our citizens( foreigners) over in the EU he just wants to ensure its fair all around , what we give we get back, not a fan of the man but the basics of what he is saying is correct.
Only it isn't.

Since the referendum over 3 million people who live and work here have been seriously concerned about their futures. The idea that we should take those people to the negotiating table as a bargaining chip is down right offensive.

The idea that the EU won't reciprocate once we make it clear that those who are here can stay post Brexit, is pure nonsense, mass deportations of citizens was never going to happen on either side, so lets just put it to bed and put the minds of those who are genuinely concerned about it at rest.

They haven't yet, but it's not them who are leaving the organisation, it's us, we should be therefore leading on this issue.

Do you think they're even remotely interested in forced repatriation of UK citizens? We can lead they will follow, it's simply the right thing to do, in order to give 3 million people peace of mind.

I have an Italian businessman next door to me he voted Brexit no worries of deportation it's a smoke screen no one will be deported with a lifespan of living in the U.K.!

No i dont think they or us are going to repatriate , anyone , but it would be foolish to give a one sided committment that could affect are citzens that live anbroad, or do you think its ok to let them not have same peace of mind you want for EU citzens here .
I would rather not just assume they were treated fairly by the EU .
Its simple if they do the right thing , we do it together not before.
