Yes they came third last night behind UKIP, marvellous achievement beating up Labour who must now realise electing Corbyn was a grave error!

Newsthump...

"Labour has insisted a disappointing result in the Sleaford by-election was caused by voters caring about the wrong things.

After slipping to fourth place from second place since the 2015 general election, Labour officials said voters who insisted on caring about things other than those which they campaigned on were to blame.

A spokesperson for the party explained, “We came to Sleaford with a strong message about the things we think people should be caring about, rather than the things people have repeatedly told us they actually care about – we thought it would be a winning tactic, but it’s clearly the fault of the electorate that they didn’t agree.

“Everyone knows it’s the job of the Labour party to tell people what they should care about, not to listen to voters and perhaps address concerns about things they seem to actually care about.

“But on the bright side at least we didn’t finish fifth, and we didn’t lose our deposit this time. Which is progress, for today’s Labour party, anyway.”

Voter Simon Williams said he’d had a couple of Labour campaigners stop him on the street to try and tell him what was important in this by-election.

“There’s nothing I love more than being told what I should be caring about, it also certainly helped being told that Labour doesn’t really have a Brexit policy – I mean, it’s not like it’s going to be important during this MPs term, is it?

“But just keep telling us what you think is important, after all, a place on the podium isn’t that important in politics anyway. It’s the taking part that counts.”

It's a lot more than bum wiping and feeding to be honest, especially when you're in complex wards like neurology or ICU. The latter, for instance, sees the nurse with the patient full-time, 1 nurse/1 patient, and it's incredibly complex, and having helped the other half with her work (grammar rather than the subject matter), there's some very advanced physiology needed for the job.

Of course, not all wards are that intense, but it's moved on a lot from the days of the doctor being the all knowing deity and the nurse being a kindly but rather dim and compliant servant. It's a lot more of a 50/50 partnership these days.
I thought Farage answer on the NHS was quite good look at Spain , France etc , and learn why they are running it better than us,, with modifications but free at the point of use!

Plenty more to it than that mate, I work alongside nurses and the majority of their work is not just social care, but also first responder medical care.
The way their degree is structured is so as to include a practicum balanced with a moderate understanding of the human body and how things work.
The certification a degree provides legislates a certain quality of care within the industry.
Again, I'm coming at this from inexperience, but are the nurses who come around and take your blood pressure, the ones who come and take you to the toilet and top up your water, are they all degree qualified? Surely they could approach it differently, with some ward staff learning the easier stuff on the job, eventually graduating towards medical care aspect?

He didn't insult the electorate at all, he's a very eloquent and knowledgeable chap. I thought he was a good panel guest.

Daily Mirror.....

It takes some doing to appear on Question Time and end up making Nigel Farage look like the 'good guy'.

But author Will Self somehow managed it during a clash over Brexit .

The journalist was on a feisty panel alongside Louise Mensch, Sarah Woolaston MP and Richard Burgon MP.

It was an unsurprisingly heated discussion with topics including Donald Trump, Brexit and the NHS.

But one particular particular comment from Self sparked anger online.

It came as Farage was talking about measures that could be taken to encourage businesses to relocate to Britian post- Brexit .

The former UKIP leader mentioned the rumour that fast-food giant McDonald's may move to the UK.

Self interrupted sarcastically saying: "Great jobs! Great jobs for everybody! Mine's a Big Mac."

It provoked some nervous laughter in the Maidenhead audience.

Self went on: "That's been the whole policy we've followed for years, and that's why people got seriously poor and voted for you weirdly."

Viewers were quick to jump on the "snobby" remark.

Journalist Harry Cole wrote: "Will Self now sneering at people that work in McDonalds. What an oaf."

Jane S wrote: "Will Self should cringe when he watches himself talking about McDonalds. Respect hard working young people, you lolloping prat"

Peter Chalinar added: "Will Self clearly dismisses anyone who works for a huge company called McDonalds - he thinks he's superior to the plebs."

Jennifer Judge chimed in: "Will Self thinks it's ok to sneer at those working in McDonalds? Thousands of people support their families working there"

McDonald's says it employees an estimated 85,000 people across the UK and over 1 million worldwide.

A degree is not just always just theory.
Well when I went in with a burst duodenal ulcer six young pretty nurses could not find a vein in the back of my hand a top ward sister did it first time apologising they were trainees in her day she was shown properly not in a classroom on a dummy!
I was the dummy my hand looked like a dartboard in the endlol

When I was young they were called Orderly nurses in a different pale blue uniform with short white sleeves who carried out those necessary medial jobs on the ward they even did the cleaning too!
They have disappeared Boursin get is a vocation the degree ones have forgot that IMO!

You have health care assistants that don't require a degree. They do a lot of that kind of stuff, so it's quite possible you mean them. You can only really tell by the different coloured uniforms, but I think each Trust has different colours for different grades.

Bruce like every trade nursing ain't what it used to be not their fault it's the system!

The theory is a pretty essential aspect to knowing what you're doing in a medical field, as it is nurses and other medical professionals are gradually introduced to the more complex stuff on the wards.
Same concept as letting a sparky go out and put some wires in without knowing what an earth is.

You want your first care responders I.e your nurses to be able to monitor patients propery and be able to identify worsening signs and what they indicate I.e strokes heart attacks e.t.c.

Why complicate ward care further by having a bunch of people that don't really know what they're about or doing beyond the very fundamentals?

Because they're spending a higher proportion of their GDP on health care...

Not been in hospital lately then - they are understaffed, they have not got the nurses who are prepared to get their hands dirty like they used too, all nurses used to be great now you have at least two bad eggs on a ward, they are totally demotivated working 13 hour shifts for 3 days one day off and back in for another three days of another 13 hour day shift for three days!
Just so a Manager can save on NI payments!
I think the world of them, but with trade unions being weak they just accept it!
