An EU supporter wins a by election in one of the most strongly pro EU constituencies in the UK. And the BBC say it's a no to brexit lol

On a reduced turnout, with the Labour vote almost removed, against a man who resigned as an MP from the party that supported him at the last election. Even UKIP didn't bother to stand this time. If ever there was a waste of time and money for the vanity of one man, this was it.......

Interesting points made by Alan Johnson re farage wouldn't have given up campaigning if he had lost and would want another referendum...
The difference is, nobody would of given Fararge the time of day if remain had won. He'd of been dismissed by almost everyone and told to live with the result, nobody would if been talking about 'respecting the 48%' had the results been the other way around. Remainers on the other hand have been given far to much credence and the argument for a second referendum or just about any excuse to block, holdup or otherwise undermine article 50 has been treated with far more respect then it deserves. Alan Johnson only illustrates the immaturity of the establishment and some remain voters. All Fararge would of done by asking for a second referendum is show himself up to be an immature child but apparently it's ok for the remain establishment to do it because nasty old Fararge would? Give me a break that's a pathetic excuse and I thought he was just an idiot who nobody would pay any attention to anyway? So I can't imagine why he's all of a sudden the measuring stick of what's right and wrong. People have forgotten the contempt his comments were treated with when he made them.

Oh dear.....

Theresa May has not been invited to a traditional annual end of year dinner with other European Union leaders at a major Brussels summit next week because Britain is leaving the EU.

The regular summit of European Union leaders will last only one day and will end with a dinner where Mrs May is not invited, the indicative programme of the meeting showed on Thursday.

Alan Johnson was his usual back covering self. When asked the first question about immigration he gave what felt like a half hour sugar coated diatribe so as not to upset anyone. I thought his only useful comment over the entire show was in respect of HS2 when, again covering his own back, he suggested that it had nothing to do with reducing train times but was about increasing capacity, which is a fair point apart from the fact that this could be done on existing trackways at far less cost and disruption........

I agree his immigration answer was terrible, he should be arguing for the benefits of immigration not trying to appeal to as many voters as possible

Us big boys are BACK!

I think people may be getting carried away here.......

The Liberal Democrats have scored a stunning by-election victory, with the party’s candidate claiming the result means opponents of Brexit can "override the referendum".

New MP Sarah Olney said the dramatic win was a rejection of the "Ukip vision" of Britain along with the politics of "anger and division".

While defeated independent incumbent Zac Goldsmith had quit the Tory party, the result is a hammer blow to Theresa May and casts huge doubt over whether she can hold Tory seats where the electorate opposes Brexit.

Her party tried to play down the result saying that it "doesn’t change anything", but Lib Dem leader Tim Farron declared his party are now "carrying the torch for all of those who want a real opposition to this Conservative Brexit government".

Labour’s already small vote in the seat was completely decimated, with the party’s candidate Christian Wolmar losing his deposit.

She won't be attending as she will be spending more time spying on us............

Funny enough, from the EU.....

A new anti-terror law backed by EU states contains rules that could be used to crack down on civil dissent.
Endorsed at the political level on Tuesday (30 November) by most EU states, the directive on combating terrorism has riled human rights activists for its vague notions of terrorism.

The bill borrows heavily from recent laws in France that allow the authorities to tell internet firms, without any judicial oversight, to block sites that "glorify" terrorism.
But those measures have already led to a series of embarrassments and errors.

Orange, a French telecoms firm, shut down Google and Wikipedia for an entire morning in October in France. Both had been added to Orange's terror watch list. People were instead redirected to a French interior ministry website, where their IP addresses were then flagged.

"There is no list of blocked sites and there is not right of appeal, until pretty much after the fact," said Adrienne Charmet, spokesperson at La Quadrature du Net, a Paris-based digital rights NGO.

"Once we start accepting this type of blocking, it is difficult to stop expanding it to other subjects," she noted.

I'm not sure that's true at all. I think the last few months have cast a fresh light on various issues regarding globalisation that require investigating. I don't think anyone doubts or questions that, what people question is the means by which those things are being addressed. Despite the rhetoric, no one really knows what Brexit looks like yet, but you've got the bizarre situation in America of a man elected to serve those left behind by globalisation filling his cabinet with the richest group of people the White House has ever seen. It's hard to see how they have any clue about the plight of the rest of society.

Sadly the level of debate during the referendum campaign was so poor that what is an important issue was treated very badly, and I think it's left us with an incredibly extreme solution that is ideologically driven and won't do much to help those it's designed to help.

And generally discussing the issues. It's purely rhetorical, but given the various comments of the past week it's useful enough. But lets imagine that things go belly up and all 1 million British expats return back to Britain in the next year. Obviously a person is a person, so they will be using services and so on. Would such an influx be ok because they're British? You would like to think that most rational people would say no, which then gets to the real point that the difficulty is down to the way we can cope with movements of people. Now, given we have long touted the merits of a flexible labour force, the movement of people is a key part of that, so we need to get better at coping with that, but that's not an issue that is on anyone's agenda at all, and it's criminal imo.

Have you watched the DP on the BBC the facts are there so stop having a go at me and listen to that show as you are a blatant misleading factual incorrect linking my post together playing just stop it and see the evidence on that tv clip ok!
What's mad about the Daily politics show?
I state the numbers put a clip on , and you class I have put the maddest conversation on this thread , and it's quotes from a tv show not right wing the BBC ?
The mods have stated not to get personal let's keep it that way, we all differ in opinion , but you try to ridicule me not very well either!

The madness continues, It's not about opinion Joey, it's also not personal in anyway whatsoever.

Go back and add up the figures again.

This got 2 likes as well, talk about post truth politics.

Just trying to get my head around the Richmond thing.

Tory Goldsmith takes seat from LibDems in 2010
Richmond vote strongly in favour of Remain
Goldsmith resigns in protest at Heathrow expansion (y'know, like a local MP concerned about local issues does)
Richmond strongly vote against him and elect pro-EU LibDem instead.

Anyone who's been to Richmond will know they are not crying out for EU funding. By voting against Goldsmith in such numbers suggests they don't care a jot about the Heathrow expansion, so I do wonder why exactly did they vote Goldsmith in in the first place?
