Erik ten Hag

Great match to go and and watch.
AZ have been impressive.
Be interested to know your thoughts on the match.

Reckon Van Brommel needs a couple more seasons to fine tune his philosophy.
But yeah, if he goes on to win trophies and brings more of the Ten Hag style into it
would be hoping Marcel brings him across.

I'm not sure Brands would be keen on ruffling feathers of his previous employer by going after their manager and as you say, he needs more experience and exposure to management outside of Dutch football.

Not that Ten Hag is likely either, but I would be more confident of him doing better as he has shown himself to be up to the rigours of CL football tactically and organisationally.

Appointing a Dutch manager would just suggest a lack of originality and a limited search process from Brands to me, so if required, I hope he takes as global a view as possible.

I watched the first leg of the semi final and Boca were reduced to lumping it up to Abila and loading the midfield in true Sean Dyche style. Dodgy penalty aside River were easily better. I'd love to see an Everton side play like that.

That is two of us.

It was a penalty.

Mas is soft as putty and had no business tackling both legs of the attacker and not touching the ball - Izquierdoz had it covered.

The occasion was bigger than Mas, not for the first time.

When I see this thread I wonder what a thread about a watch is doing in the Everton forum.

That tells you all you need to know about my non L4 footie knowledge. (And that aint all that these days)

I disagree on that, the ball moved a good bit the way his leg was moving, so I personally wouldn't have given it even after replay but he was swinging wildly so it's hard to say it's completely wrong.

But to steer this back to Ten Hag a bit, I see him and Gallardo as coaches who won't fall into the trap of coming here and adapting things to fit the squad too much. Silva got away from his principles, assuming he had them, too much and is now stuck in this 4-2-3-1 rut. I want a manager who is going to take the time to play his way and not adapt too much just to get wins early on.

Maybe two seasons ago I could see an Ajax manager leaving for Everton but they have taken massive steps forward since then and we have not.

He certainly seems to have a lot going for him, but I couldn't see us being all that appealing to him. It isn't all about throwing money at someone and expecting them to salivate.

Think the fact we would probably triple his salary would be of interest to him

Can we bring back a demand in decaffeinated coffee at Goodson if we land this prize of a manager?

Just about every assumption you've made is incorrect.

That's fair enough. I still don't believe we have the players to play his way. Some of them can't even pass to their own team mates apart (Schniderlin apart) much less play expansive attacking football. Those players at Ajax have grown up playing a certain way. He may have adjusted somehow to play his way but all the players there are technically gifted. Look, I like him a lot. I really like Ajax and would love us to emulate their academy but it's going to be a long long season if we signed him as our players are going to take a long while to adjust to how he plays. If we can temper our ambition and recognise that he's trying to build something so we have to take the rough with the smooth then fine.

A lot of them are recruited from other Dutch teams between 15 and 18 as well. Ajax's gambling on youth team prospects is what keeps some clubs open for business.

That's fine. I want Everton to do that. I posted something like that a while back saying we need to have an academy which plays the Everton way so youth players can come through into the first squad and know exactly what to expect. It would also save us spending money on other players where we can then top up here and there when needed.
