“isn’t overly controversial”? Heathrow expansion is massively controversial and has been for years
Apparently they are developing clean hydrogen fuel cells for planes trains buses etc which will mitigate increased air travel
Bam Ford the JCB guy has put a fortune into the technology and the government is very keen.

Would actually be really interested to see your ideal world. Permanent lockdowns with no travel allowed.

What a fun life that would be.

Hydrogen power is probably the best answer for planes, electric planes seems a lot more difficult to achieve.

They had developed smart border for Northern Ireland with all sorts of gizmos, it was ready to be implemented apparently... Next it will be a "world beating carbon catcher".lol

Seriously though, if you told everyone to disconnect from the internet because of the emissions caused by cloud computing, I doubt you'd get many takers. While the environment is obviously the main concern for some people, for others it falls well down.

I mentioned the event my wife participated in, for instance, which featured child health workers from across the UK to raise awareness of the impact of pollution on children's health. No one else on her team gives a stuff. It's just not on their radar at all.

Fact its COP26, the 26th time they have met is proof enough its not on the radar.
Literally entire towns in the UK with hundreds probably thousands dead in one incident will be the point that something actually starts to be done. And depending on the political structure of other countries will respond similarly.

The Czech president has poo poo'd the EU's Green Deal proposal today. The Czech economy is driven in large part by Skoda. That's probably why there have been 26. Change on a global scale isn't easy.

There was some sort of vague attempt at global cooperation when it came to the pandemic, but that quickly descended into vaccine stockpiling by wealthier nations EUs Green deal does not fit into the "greed is good" me myself and I mantra.

We’ve started prospecting to reopen copper mines in Cornwall and lithium mining there also but apparently it does not effect the local ecosystem (as if )
With some luck sometime in the future this will be seen as a disastrous period of history. The whole world runs on economic growth which relies to some extent on population growth. As long as this continues, we'll continue to plunder the earth's resources and I don't see an end to that anytime soon.
