Get your houses insulated is my advice...

Insulating your house only does so much. You still need to use gas.

The prices doubling in a few months can't be sorted by insulation. Loads of poor families will have already got their houses insulated already so they'll still feel the full force of the price rises.

There's been a big government sponsored and subsidised "get your house insulated" scheme in operation for some time now.
That's in France by the way.

Same in Wales, had my done at no cost And there was no qualifying reason as in benefits or wealth, roof and walls. The company tasked with doing local authority just knock on my door 4 years ago and offered. Think if they got so many houses done the Welsh Government have the local authority a kick back of something.


I know there is scheme in Wales for those who do qualify, good turn around have gone through the process with many people with work.

Any measure that reduces the need to have boiler burning gas must be looked into. I would happily go as and say insulation has halved our use of the gas boiler, that's significant saving.
What we are seeing is the short sightedness of privatizations of energy in the late 80s and early 90s, where the shareholder is significantly and legally more important than the customer, "tell sid".
This energy cost wont just effect energy bills many industry is reliant of gas, thinking bricks and ceramics etc. Many goods will have to rise.

There is nothing in my statement that defends them, just a question regarding what they stand for specifically, irrespective of their actions, and you immediately attack their methods in some contrived culture war.

I think their cause is fine. Their demands - and they are demands (as per their description) - are mad.

- Fully fund and take responsibility for the insulation of all social housing in Britain by 2025.
- Produce within four months a legally binding national plan to fund and take responsibility for the full insulation retrofit, with no externalised costs, of all homes in Britain by 2030.

Those, simply, are not realistic demands. And the way they have gone about it has totally undermined their cause.

Government advice with regards to insulation has been the same for years (as in “get some, it will save you money”), and for large scale projects like this the government is much more able to do it than local councils or individuals are, and can (when done properly) exert much more control over costs.

Of course, I get that, however, as part of this will be retro-fitted, how much energy goes into the project Vs energy saved by the buildings, with lifetime expectancy built in? Any idea?

they aren't by 2025 and 2030, no 'tbf' because you hate this government (shock, so do I).

They aren't offering any solutions, any way of getting their demands. One of them literally says 'at no extra cost'. How is that going to happen?

I think all social housing should be insulated btw. I don't think it's reasonable to expect it to happen without additional costs.

I’m all for environmental improvements, however their methods are abhorrent. I saw a video of them obstructing an ambulance. They should face criminal charges of any harm came.

I drive to provide medical care and if one of them ever got in my way I’d be sure to confront them and call police.
