Enner Valencia

I genuinely think the only reason he is here because if Kone or Lukaku get injured, Niasse becomes second choice.. And that is not an option!!

I think I've solved the Enner conundrum (the conundrum being why the hell we signed him). With Niasse still here we needed a play pal for him . We bang him and Oumar in some nets in the corner of Finch Farm and leave them to play kickball to each other. Keeps them away from the professional footballers. They're happy Koemans happy, boom problem solved.

yes after he tore it up before his injury.

I'm not saying he's great, but he's far from bad.

And why West Ham fans are suddenly to be trusted I don't know...

Changed your mind then?

FFS, Martins Indi will be huge in Stoke getting CL won't he, EY?

And I bet we won't be able to compete with West Ham now they've signed Zaza on loan.

And that's before we've even got started on Swansea maybe getting Enner Valencia.

Moomin tried that the other day mate ;)

Valencia would have been off to Swansea as first choice. It doesn't change the fact that Valencia is better back-up than what we had before...

Even though, as I keep saying and I'm sure you'll ignore, I think we could and should have done better.

Oops. Awkward

Not really. As I said yesterday, as first-choice it'd be awful. He isn't though - he's back-up.

While we all wanted and hoped for better, ultimately it was always going to be a tough position to fill. We still should have done it, but people seem to have been expecting top-quality players to jump at the chance to play second-fiddle to Lukaku - it ain't gonna happen.

Valencia improves on what we had before - at the very least.

My personal reservations about him are based around the fact he had a good world cup and was signed off the back of it.

I had the same reservation about Beatte and Saha and was right on both of them as well, bought because of one good thing/season and nothing else.

If he proves me wrong then fantastic, but not slating the fella, just don't think he is very good hence why West ham haven't even got a place for him in the team.

Saha was a cracking player, he was just never fit.

Beattie needed to play in a system that suited him (ie Southampton) he was never going to be a success as a lone front man for us.

If anything I think Beattie proves the opposite of your point. Bent did a better job for us even though Beattie was a much better player talent wise.

Dont judge players based off what they have done elsewhere. I think Valencia will fit in well with our style of play and will surprise a few people. He isnt a bad player at all, not the player most of us hoped for obviously but its laughable how bad that people are thinking he is whilst also learning nothing from the Gueye is rubbish nonsense earlier this summer.

What? They've watched him week in week out for 2 years, what does this statement even mean? What if Hull signed Tom Cleverley and we all started laughing at them, would they say "why Everton fans are suddenly to be trusted I don't know..."? It makes no sense, I'd trust a West Ham fan over an Everton fan on the subject of a West Ham player any day of the week

I watched him a bit when he first arrived at West Ham as they'd also had Reid. Noticed him in the World Cup and thought he'd might be good for us.

He was looking very promising and then got injured. After that don't remember seeing much of him. Partly because watching West Ham is not something anyone should do as a hobby.

Hope a fresh start here works for him, I understand the doubts, but he might work out for us. At least he didn't cost £13 million with no refunds. If he's no good we can get rid.

Beattee had one good season mate in his career, and we signed him off the back of it? Saha was a crock and massive liability as a first choice striker. Remember when he finally signed a contract and then didn't score for months on end? Or when he didn't score for months before he left? All the times he was injured etc, all the makings of a poor investment for the course of the contract, although when we got the real player, he was great.

I base valencia elsewhere on the fact that a club who struggled for strikers and still do to a fair extent, still felt the need to get rid of him. He could be boss here, and i hope he is. But same way as signing any other player out of favour elsewhere around us, the club don't feel they are good enough for the level we are already at.

The difference between gueye and valencia is that gueye was (much like kone) plucked from france from a league that very few people seem to pay attention to and it turns out he is quite good. Same as kante/kone/marhez and the like. Valencia on;y appeared on anyones radar because of the world cup, he played in mexico! He did well for ecuador and then West ham bought him off the back of that. Once he got adjusted to the league he got worse, injuries meant he couldn't get himself back to the level he needed to play at.
