English Everton

My post code is Chester, my phone number is Merseyside. What the **** am I?

English that's what. So here I am tooled up in my hob nail boots, bulldog tats, vest and skinhead. Or am I a sweet little old lady sitting in a sweetshop with flowers on the wall.

Thing is, were all Everton, but how many of us are actually from Everton? That's a poser.

I am not talking about English now mate, sorry to go off topic. Of course you are English like me, i am not going along with Halewood on this nonsense.

You are a Chesireonian if there is such a thing :).

i like scousers despite the fact i am what they refer to as a woolyback, ffs 1/2 my family are scouse. yet some scousers have the attitude in any differing of opinions that "yeah but you're a wool" and to them that ends the discussion with them right and you wrong. there are probably scousers at opposite ends of the border that live further from each other than i do to the closest part of scouseonia. i've been called a f'kin wool at the match in the past, it is a self righteousness that must go hand in hand with catholicism in a lot of cases.

*opens new can of worms:P

Oh fukkin shut up Reidy you wool.

Im right, your not!!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Dont you mean a woollyback lol i was born and bred in cheshire, half my family is from liverpool and the other from cheshire but im still proud to be what i am and even prouder that i support the only and original team in liverpool and to be english

Personally I prefer British to English, and despise being referred to according to birthplace. And anyway, my bloodline is German, Polish and Romany, and probably tonnes more when you go down the family tree.

I like being British because Britishness encompasses all people. To be British you are from Britain, or a citizen of Britain. Anyone can be British, but outsiders to Englishness or Scouseness are always going to be reminded that they're different. English, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Scouse, Manc is just a bullshit label made to make people thing they are special, unique, different and belong to something that is great.

Oh, and I do support the England football team. I might not like a lot of the players, but it adds a bit of enjoyment to my life during big tournaments.

Rant over

But Everton are the Catholic club in Liverpool.

:P

Have to say, I was brought up with that belief.

Interestingly, I read a Rankin novel last summer in which it claimed Everton were provs and Liverpool catholics. Pissed me off.

He should stick to Edinburgh football...though even there he's getting told off!! Ian Rankin • View topic - Apology required please, Ian...

:P

Alexie Sayle in Barcelona Plates has a bit about all this (and get's the 'club's in the right order' - as you'd expect a local to). I suppose it just goes to show how tenuous these 'links' are that some get confused.

isn't the correct term a "cat":D

:P

i always found that theory strange, unless st.domingo's actually got made into a catholic church. is the church in the corner catholic ? also a giveaway is the title given to the clubs religious fellow as cath/prod has diff. names , and as far as i can see everything points away from catholic. maybe scouse is also a religion ?

yet if you live in skem apparently you are scousers.

when did the term scouser become common as my 'arl grandad used to go ape if he was referred to as a scouser, i think he viewed it like being called a scally or lid from what he used to say. he was on holiday in malta and Everton played a game there against Hamrun Spartans, he asked the manager if he could sort a ticket and he said "oh, i didn't realise you was a scouser " he hit the roof and said "i'm certainly not, "i am gentleman that comes from liverpool, and certainly not a scouser", he was that offended that the bloke got his ticket and took him along by means of apology......crafty 'arl tightarse, don't know if it was a bit of a snobbery thing as well tbh.

Scouser, Whacker, Liverpudlian, even Liverpolitan has been used down the years.

In the nineteenth century they were even known as 'Dic ky Sams'. No idea why.

F'ing spot on lad. I get annoyed that we cannot display the George Cross flag without it being offensive. It only appears to be this country that is affected because America, Wales, Scotland, Ireland etc etc are free to display there national flag without any problems. Jesus, we cant even celebrate St Georges Day (Our Day) properly but have no problem celebrating St Patricks Day which in my opinion is just another excuse for a piss up. This country is on its arse because of the mentality of the people living in it.

Well thats not quite true is it?

st georges day celebrations - Google Search

You wanna celebrate it then feel free. This whole "oh you cant do this and you cant say that" argument only seems to come from people who never try and believe that stories they read in the papers are true for everywhere.

Of course there are pc idiots who get all offended on someone elses behalf about anything but if you really look you might find they are themsleves the minority.

This thread is daft, thank you HB for posting it. Now close it please GOT.

I didnt, it was Ghost but thanks for checking before you posted!

Well its different for you and its possibly different for others who have migrated here. But i was born in England, my parents are English, my grandparents are English. So im English.

Im fairly sure HB is from a completely English family, so his claim of not being English is utter bullcrap.

Nobody is telling anybody what Nationality they are, but if you can trace your Parents and Grandparents and they were born in England, your ******* English.

On the other hand if your parents where not born in England, but you are, you can call yourself English, but if you wish to take dual nationality or even the country of your parents birth, thats fine, but to pretend your not English when your family tree smells of Englishness is pathetic.

A bit presumptious of you isnt it goat?

Your not scouse your English, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, British, scouse isnt a race its a region, get a grip. Honestly.

If your really getting into it, English are Anglo Saxon, Irish, Welsh and Scots are Celts, there are no such race as english, irish, scot and welsh

i have seen that about the place, on the topic Liverpool is the only place in England were i have been in a pub watching England and somebody scores against them and people cheer, so i understand what HB is getting at,

That was probably me!

Skem like Winsford in Cheshire is a Scouse overflow town so technically they are scousers
