Think the likes of Keane and Terry were captains same age as McCarthy.

And I disagree with you regarding older players not respecting younger ones as captain

How on earth could say, Baines, Jags, Barry fully respect Stones as a leader? He doesn't know enough about the game yet.

He's an astonishing talent, an assured player and a born leader, but in any work environment, how can a lifelong pro take orders from someone who's been doing it for a year?

Admittedly I might be overstating the importance of a captain, but you can be too young to be a captain, in my opinion.

You respect a player because of his ability and you respect how he acts as a leader off and on he pitch.

Stones will be one of the best centre halves to play for us.

He has the right attitude in regards to everything and those afore mentioned players already listen to him when he bosses them about on the pitch already.

So quite frankly they already do respect him as a leader

up to Christmas Naismith Stones and McCarthy were the only players I didn't really slag off but Jags has improved the most since then
Stonesy has been immense but not without some mistakes which as a youngster that's normal, and he will soon be ours and Englands future captain in my eyes.
Next season I hope we will see the real potential of Ross , Rom an Seamus but that is down to Roberto as much as themselves.
Let's play to their strengths and with Jimmy Mac and Kev if he stays 2 or 3 additions we can challenge easily for top 6 next season

Stones or McCarthy would be great.

Can't be too young to be a captain if you are starting every week in the first team.

Natural leaders lead from any age .
Although great on the pitch, McCarthy seems very uncomfortable doing the off field media work that is part and parcel of being captain.

In contrast Stones is a natural at both but he probably needs to be eased into it - assuming Jags stays for another couple of years and John continues his progression he'd probably be ready to take over.

Completely agree with this. Stones is a great talent and clearly isn't afraid to order others around. But does he need to be made captain to still do that? He can still be an influential voice without undermining the current captain.

Jags is slated on here as a captain but for a club that doesn't spend as much, a happy dressing room is vital and he does a lot to galvanise them away from the pitch.

Martinez looks like a waiter

People laughing at the Mirallas shout only Stones and Mccarthy can be argued to have done more this season.

Bu bu bu bu eee mist da penulty lad eez a judaz

Maybe captain fantastic should have taken it off him then
Yes

@Matt_Cheetham: Also the 9th straight year a defender has been named EFC Players' POTY (in 10 years of awards). Arteta the only non-defender in 2006.

@Matt_Cheetham: Jagielka named Everton Players' POTY. Also won it in 09. Joins Lescott (07, 08) and Baines (10, 11 and 13) as the only multiple winners.

What a boring club this is.

Saying that, it probably should have been Stones.

He's played well when fit, and, unlike several of his teammates, hasn't made me question why I pay to watch Everton by doing any of the following:

- Chipping the ball out of play under no pressure.
- Letting the ball roll under his foot and out of play.
- Having a first touch which either causes me to burst out laughing, or leads to an opposition chance (or both).
- Stepping out of defence and striking a Baresi-type pose, only to float an aimless ball into the Bullens.
- Signing for Sampdoria.
