Follow that line and you might want to ban Instagram and facebook too - if the desire to sensor this worrying techbro grab, disinfo and right wing Trump support. Given that Sergey Brin has also done a 180 like the other broligrchs and joined them in the prime seats at Trumps inauguration we might need to add Youtube a Google to the list of suspects to be avoided. I do get your concerns but it is a wider problem than just Musk.

Our owners donate to Trump, and runs/supports game/trophy hunting. Censor Everton too, FFS.

Not a bad idea that, actually.

We get requests to censor Everton vs Newcastle fixtures, citing their ownership.

As you say, you could go on and on. Google, Meta aren't innocent firms.

I get the feedback, but I'm personally going to continue to use Twitter as I have for 17 years. As Everton will. To censor it's use on here, would be hypocritical. I don't/can't stop using things because of the morals of billionnaires.

Since Musk, we've moved away from it, we no longer allow people to login with Twitter credentials. We don't embed our content anywhere etc.

Reddit is a different animal. I could ban Twitter in our 60k+ Facebook group and 150k page without consequence. I've not seen any football forum censor Twitter - to censor Twitter on here, would mean we auto change their links - which would cause 100,000+ broken links. I'm no SEO expert, but Google definitely don't like broken links and there would be at least 100,000+ suddenly on GOT. It would directly harm the forum and why - because of Elon Musk?

Blacklist Elon Musk I get. Ban Twitter? Not so much. The Online Safety Act will bin this CA forum soon (take *that* free speech), so the only Twitter stuff on here will be football. We routinely encourage people to share from credible sources and I don't feel the harm in some people sharing Tweets about football to be worthy of an effort that would cause lasting damage to the forum.

I was going to propose it, but its difficult, the site exists due to engagement, Twitter creates engagement.

Tough place to be in for a site owner, but feel free to ask the big man, he might have different thoughts.

We were around before Twitter.

People used to think social media would end forums, I saw social media as a way to bring people to a forum who otherwise never would have done.

Twitter brings us new users. Like so. It's the only reason I'm active on there.

I'm pretty lazy on social media generally nowadays. I blame Everton zapping enthusiasm.

How long does the good ship CA have before it's sunk?

Don't know the answer yet, it's still a bit up in the air - at least when it becomes enforceable.

But I do know we won't be allowed to run a hands off moderation forum. And that approach is the only way this forum can work.

Was going to whoever won the election.

Indeed.

They needed something, but in my view and generally the consensus across forums - it's terribly executed. A lot of good forums will close entirely because of how clunky it is. Fortunately for us, it's not existential but 5 years ago, I'd have binned the forum on the back of it.

From that March is endsville.

Yowzers! Looks like it could result in a whole different feel to the forum.

Whats weird about the salute is that no main stream media are covering it here. Not Maddow, not anyone really.
It's all over FB and Bluesky but not the major networks and barely the major papers. Havent even heard NPR mention it.

It's a mad law, deliberately vague to make sure that any complaints mean stuff has to be deleted. Fits perfectly with the current love of censorship and stifles ALL online debate about anything.

Is the football part truly safe?

On the SEO question from your other comment, I do that and your instincts are 100% right on the removal of Twitter links and what that would do to the site. There's no way of knowing exactly what would happen to traffic but it's a big big risk

Free speech has limits, like you said. You can't yell "FIRE" in theater. You can't yell "BOMB" in an airplane. It's pretty fn simple that you shouldn't be able to try to normalize rhetoric that killed TENS OF FN MILLIONS!

I am absolutely a first amendment guy. I believe you have the right to say ALMOST anything. The fact that this is even debated means you aren't in good faith.
Sure, free speech has limits. But where is Elon Musk inciting hatred? Where is he defaming anyone? Where is he threatening violence? Unless it's these things I've listed, it's fair game.

I also find it disingenuous that you claim to be American who is an "absolutely" a first amendment guy yet in another post in this thread, you are calling for a foreign government to arrest one of our own citizens (Musk).
