He deserves a lot of credit for what the company achieved.

Its like saying a military general doesnt deserve any credit because their troops did the fighting...

...or a football manager because it was the players on the pitch.

Does Space X make a profit though? Like Twitter doesn't. Tesla barely does, and only seems too because utter flumps bid the share price up.

Like being objective with him, does he really create cash flow yielding businesses? I remain to be convinced.

Like I genuinely don't get it with him. I heard him mouthing off about Warren Buffet recently, and.I just can't hand him at all.

Was it? Did he personally build the rocket?

You know what would be remarkable, of one of his companies like Twitter showed a profit. That would be a good start.
You honestly think a company turning a profit is more impressive than a reusable rocket?

I get that you may not like the guy but get some perspective.

Not everything has to be politics.

Musk brings the finance, that is it. All the SpaceX science and engineering teams need is just that. Musk is not designing reusable space rockets.

Did Steve Jobs personally build the iPad or iPhone? No, but he was instrumental in getting these projects through. Musk is the driving force behind SpaceX's achievements. Two other high profile billionaire's have thrown vast cash at space flight, Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson. Yet we aren't today congratulating Bezos or Branson for catching a big booster rocket on metal chopsticks. Why? Because they are not the same force of nature as Musk when it comes to tech or engineering.

Musk has a few years still to try and make twitter profitable. It's a big ask for sure and he may not ultimately succeed at X. However, Tesla and SpaceX are currently making so much money for Musk. Having around 15% of my portfolio in Tesla I hope Musk continues to succeed at the company.

Do you think Musk likes pickers?

Tesla? I hope for your sake you get out before the bubble bursts.

I agree with the post below AND i think we could agree that if he sold either company he would make a massive profit?

I've done moderately well with it so far, but these decisions always have some risk. I look at Tesla going forward as more of an AI company than an EV company. Tesla AI is basically full self driving and humanoid robots. If just one of these two things work then Musk becomes the world first trillionaire and I too benefit. Thanks for your concern though.

Btw a prediction; if Dems go ahead and take a huge chunk of Musk money I think it will be through FSD lawfare.

Hopefully they do something different to the mooted plan of getting a certain % of the unrealised value of a persons assets, which probably would result in legal action ad infinitum and is pretty immoral to boot. A much better plan would be to tax loans secured against those assets, which has the benefit of being much less immoral, and also recognises the value that both parties in a transaction place on those assets (and is therefore semi-realised). This should mean Musk and others would be liberated of some of their ill-gotten gains thereby to the benefit of the state; this is a scam that only the super-rich have been able to use and its long past time it was dealt with.

As for Tesla, unfortunately self-driving is probably a dead end even if it exploits where the waste exists in the current car ownership model (ie: when its sat on your driveway doing nothing) - hiring your car out when its not being used will be great for a few months until people just realise they don't need to buy a car anymore. Once that happens they'll realise that walking or cycling is better for most journeys people make, and that just leaves medium-long distance travel, where there are already better options (especially for long distance travel) in most places than EVs (never mind self-driving EVs) and will be for the forseeable future.

AI on the other hand probably isn't something Musk understands; if he did then he wouldn't be on the side of the people who would look to ban or otherwise restrict the areas where it would be most useful.

People aren't going to start walking & cycling instead of driving, especially if the cost of a short drive is peanuts compared to today's cost of buying a car or hiring a taxi with a human driver driving you. The world(especially Western world) is filled with fat, unfit, elderly or infirm people. These people are not suddenly walking or cycling a mile to their work or to a dentist appointment.

However, you do make one good point. Tesla do forsee car purchases for individual owners own use dwindling at some point in the future. It's then robotaxi's all the way down, either through Tesla directly and maybe to privately owned robotaxi fleets.

Plenty of experts have concerns & fears with the future of AI. These experts know the field far, far better than you or I. It doesn't mean these fearful experts are correct, just that the AI field is filled with people of competing fears and hopes. What I do know is that your settled opinion on such a high tech matter is utterly irrelevant and utterly ignorant.

Thanks, coming from a renowned expert in irrelevant and utterly ignorant opinions this means a lot.
