Aye. It's a really scary proposition in an already treacherous world.

I've just signed up to Bluesky. Initial impression are that it's a bit barren, yet feels very similar to Twitter. It seems to be more focused on customisation and personal preferences, which gives the impression that it's moderated more strictly than Twitter. I'm rarely encouraged or even excited by social media, but for me Bluesky is by far the most likely to dethrone Twitter, which is something which needs to happen as quickly as possible.

bluesky is like the hotel that looks great in the pictures but when you show up everything is out of date and the few people there are already talking to themselves. would be great if it works out, but it seems both too similar to twitter and too empty to every reach critical mass.

Very true. I have an account and it is nowhere near the level of interaction I had on twitter with my colleagues and friends. On BSKY, if I post, it just mostly is for me as no one else seems to notice (not that I care...it is, afterall, the just thing I do for fun). And then there are a few folks I follow who just dominate my feed by having back-n-forths. It's like an empty party where no one is having fun, yet there are like 4 loudmouths jawing-away at too high a decibel.

Hope it picks up, but I doubt it.
