I suspect he approached SpaceX with a little less hubris than Twitter, but who knows; at the very least, it's clear from watching him run Tesla that he doesn't understand anything beyond a superficial level. He's not putting people into space, he simply hiring people and (supposedly) letting them do their job.

Whether Twitter is "just words on a screen," even egomaniacal wrecks don't spend $44B if they believe it's "just words on a screen." Bezos paid ~$250 million for WaPo, one of the world's leading news organizations. Granted that was a decade ago, but $250 million for "words on a screen" vs $44B for "words on a screen" is a significant valuation change (that's roughly 176,000x more for Twitter) between two different types of "words on a screen."

The secret is to not over think it. It's a social media platform.

My only hope is that it makes Elons arse twitch.

It won't, sadly. It works more akin to Discord - but you make an account for every server you join. People will flock to it initally, sure, but it won't last. It's security is very bad! And it's ultimately very confusing

T2 could work

Isnt that Jack fella making a new Twitter also?

I'm on mastodon...it's not very exciting and not-user friendly. You also really can't make threaded-responses (you can, but there are lots of steps), so it's all one-off tweets, and the stuff I tended to like on twitter was longer threads that discuss a given topic in-depth. I still don't miss twitter and glad I got out as Musk is a frickin' ass-clown of the highest level and I don't want support his idiocy in even the most peripheral fashion.

Mastodon has been around for 10 years from what I recall. I have no idea how "safe" "secure" it is because I don't know much about internet stuff, but my few posts there are for all to see. The good part of mastodon is that it's not run by a corporation, there are no ads, and there are no tweets showing up in your timeline that you didn't ask for.
