Twitter has become a hellhole over the last year or so, but something quite sad about it just being killed off

Met some good folks through it who are now actually real life pals

It’s bigger than that imo as we're looking behind the curtain at Musk's so called genius here. His personal brand is being hammered and it's only that the props up his other businesses. This could be a Theranos of incompetence as his cheerleaders in the media and investors jump ship.

Tesla shares have taken a hiding, with him selling shares in his flagship company worth billions of dollars to piss up the wall doesn't look good for the CEO.

It was good back in the day.

You could pretty much guarantee who and what was available on your timeline and the toxic stuff was only viewable if you went and searched for it.

However, they’ve been fiddling our algorithms for years now, and it’s helped a lot of dangerous people get into power so it needs to die.

Something else will pop up after it.

Tbf, you used to be able to keep a lot of the crap stuff out very easily but they've made so many changes over the last 18 months that's changed that

Shame really. Its heyday was beautiful

I used to think I enjoyed Twitter once upon a time too, but once I realised everything about it was making me a miserable, consumerist, empty drone of a person and bailed it, more or less overnight my mental health improved and I haven’t looked back since, never once tempted to rejoin. It is poison, when it’s gone for good I’m sure everyone will realise what a detrimental impact it’s had on the world.

To be fair, after getting sacked, just about the best thing that could happen would be your ex-boss ringing you up begging you to come back and fix a problem he hadn’t anticipated.

Then you could tell him, in no uncertain terms, to get F’d.

An ex boss of mine once offered me a golden opportunity to take a weeks holiday from my new job to train my replacement for free. Telling him to get to was awesome.

I often see people saying that it's replaceable, and yes, the technology is eminently replaceable, but it's not the technology that makes it valuable, it's the networks people have built up, and those can't be transferred somewhere else. If it was as simple as downloading your network and transplanting it wholesale to Mastadon (or somewhere) then people would be gone in a heartbeat.
The other thing with this, is these social media companies can rise and fall very quickly.

Friends re-United just disappeared. Does anyone still use Myspace?

In 2000 Yahoo was bigger than the google search engine. Who remembers askjeeves as a search engine?

Most of the above were leading tech companies, that just disappeared very quickly. It could all unravel quite quickly at twitter.

'Enjoy' Twitter might be a stretch. I barely post these days

Just on reflection, it's been a tool for good at times and that's going away. Sad/disappointing/etc

I was informed the other week that I've been on Twitter for 13 years. Quite the run really.. be a shame if it tanks completely despite the toxicity you often see.

Not sure what the issue is my myself

I like twitter, but hate Musk.

I'll still use it the way I always have, for news and sports mostly.

If you don't like it, then leave and delete your account (I've seen a lot of celebs saying they're leaving but haven't).

Stop cry-arseing over him buying it. There's nothing you can do about it and no one is forcing you to use it.
