I often see people saying that it's replaceable, and yes, the technology is eminently replaceable, but it's not the technology that makes it valuable, it's the networks people have built up, and those can't be transferred somewhere else. If it was as simple as downloading your network and transplanting it wholesale to Mastadon (or somewhere) then people would be gone in a heartbeat.
 
Oh that would be glorious if Twitter died a death. It won't of course which is a shame and even if it did something would pop up to do the same.

I do feel sorry for the people though who up until a few weeks ago we're probably happy in their jobs. The company I work for got taken over a few years back and they did a similar thing of cutting back staff and boosting morale, the new owners are American of course...
