I hardly doubt the opinions on a football forum dictate a player’s future.

Doesn't just stay on the forum

Negativity that starts here can spread to places like Twitter and Facebook, which can then spill into the match day populace and so forth

It's always better to be positive about a young player. If they don't make it then they don't make it, but we shouldn't be preordaining it before they've even had a game

How about we give him an actual chance to play football before we demand a cull?

I'd like to think that his skills will translate once he acclimatises to bigger stronger opposition. Having watched most of the highlight videos (and a couple times live only), it doesn't seem that he relies on his relative physical advantages for the majority of his goals. His finishing seems to be good, he seems to be able to create a bit of space to get a shot off, and I've seen him smash a couple in the top corner on the turn this season. Overall I think he should be able to do the same at a higher level.
Agree about his finishing, and the way we play at u18 of getting the ball forward fast and into space for him to run onto really suits his game. 20 goals next season at U23s and we’ve got a player.

Who’s demanding a cull? I’m just giving my opinion that he won’t make it here. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Even if we have him in and round the squad for a bit, if he’s not good enough we can sell him to a lower league side and make profit on an academy player. Win win. Not everyone has to be Wayne Rooney.

Read an interview on the Echo before with the guy that “found him” and he said he’s the fastest thing he’s ever seen on a pitch.

Is it just me that didn’t really notice blistering pace?
In fairness he’s got good pace and was outpacing other 17/18 year olds last season, wouldn’t call it blistering and it’s hard to compare at this level, I remember watching Shayne Lavery skip past defenders a couple of seasons ago and thinking he’s got good pace for a 17 year old :(

Yeh he’s quick but the way that scout(?) described it was if he was Usain Bolt and I never really noticed it. Unless it just wasn’t really easy to tell in U18’s football; might be more of a sprinter than acceleration.

Shouldn't you actually watch him play properly for us first before coming to that opinion though?

If someone told you a restaurant was never going to get a Michelin Star, but they'd never actually eaten there and had absolutely no idea about the dishes they served, would you just accept it or would question it?

I don't know how he'll do here, but I'm at least prepared to wait to see before stating one way or the other. And if he isn't going to make it here, what else would we do but cull him? By saying so authoritatively that he isn't going to make it, you're in essence asking for him to be culled

Why are you assuming I’ve never seen him play football before?

From what I’ve seen he is rapid without the ball and when given a chance to open his legs. More Lukaku than Defoe (if he was half as good as either of them I’d be made up).

Get him into the first team he's 18 now he's old enough, he's also far better our other strikers. That u23s is a disaster for young lads, once they get to 18 people say he needs a few years in the u23 league, a few years later they are 20-21 and the same people are saying sell him if he was good enough he'd of made it by now. Into the first team he'll improve more and faster if he's playing against better players, bagging loads of goals underage is no good to him any more.
