Plus we desperately need pace and someone at the back that can pass.

Those two weaknesses are probably are biggest now we have some pace again in our attack.
He's far from a ball playing CB mate, played a really nice diagonal long ball today I'll admit but he's never been renowned for his passing.

He does have a good amount of pace about him however!

Really. OK I just assumed City must have signed him for that reason.

But even so we need pace back there and let's be honest its not like any of our other CBs aren't liabilities either.

I hope he's OK and if he is we should give him more time.

Quite surprised by this. I think Holgate has been very good overall since moving to centre-back, whereas Keane just looks out of his depth when faced with any kind of difficulty.
My point is merely that, in my opinion, the expectations are different.
People are raving about Holgate because there's no expectation. He cost a pittance and seems to be given a never ending transitional period from youngster of potential to first team regular. He's had some good performances, no doubt. WH at home he was excellent.
But he's also been appalling at times too. Vs Bournemouth. Vs WBA to name but two.
Keane has been poor at times too. His performance vs Leicester though was better than anything Holgate has mustered in his entire time with us.

Keane was awesome at Burnley. And he cost 25m. So the belief was that he'd come in and kick Williams and Jagielka into touch. He hasn't. But that doesn't mean that Holgate has been any better. Surely, if he had, he'd be even making the bench more than he has recently.

The reality in my mind is, he's been just bad if not worse and Allardyce is picking the player he believes more likely to contribute. Which is Keane. Evidently.

Our CB are as bad as each other this season. Hope something has changed asap.

Reminds me of Gus Ceaser.

For younger viewers, that is not a good thing.

Gus ceaser! That's a blast from the past. Played against him in a bounce match when he was training at Partick thistle. Ah the memories... Can see where you are coming from to be fair from what he has shown for us but I think, given time he could be excellent for us. His pace is desperately needed.

He signed in the pre-Pep era. Not a passer.
