My point is merely that, in my opinion, the expectations are different.
People are raving about Holgate because there's no expectation. He cost a pittance and seems to be given a never ending transitional period from youngster of potential to first team regular. He's had some good performances, no doubt. WH at home he was excellent.
But he's also been appalling at times too. Vs Bournemouth. Vs WBA to name but two.
Keane has been poor at times too. His performance vs Leicester though was better than anything Holgate has mustered in his entire time with us.
Keane was awesome at Burnley. And he cost 25m. So the belief was that he'd come in and kick Williams and Jagielka into touch. He hasn't. But that doesn't mean that Holgate has been any better. Surely, if he had, he'd be even making the bench more than he has recently.
The reality in my mind is, he's been just bad if not worse and Allardyce is picking the player he believes more likely to contribute. Which is Keane. Evidently.
